May 8, 2008: Marvel Studios announced a June 4, 2010 release date in it's first quarter report. Also worth mentioning is that it appears that Matthew Vaughn is no longer attached to direct, as his "holding deal" expired in December. Now, thats not to say he won't direct, his name is just not attached to it, at the moment. August 12, 2007: Marvel Studios is setting Matthew Vaughn to direct Thor, based on the Marvel Comics character. Marvel is aiming for a pre-strike production start this winter. Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend) did the adaptation of the comic book franchise that launched in 1962. Thor is a blonde-tressed, hammer-wielding hero who's sent to Earth to protect mankind. Vaughn's deal is closing just as Paramount releases the Vaughn-directed Stardust today. Thor marks Vaughn's second effort at a superhero pic. He was attached to direct X-Men: The Last Stand before bowing out for personal reasons. Vaughn, who produced the Guy Ritchie-directed films Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, made his directing debut with the Daniel Craig starrer Layer Cake. June 14, 2007: According to the LA Times, Matthew Vaughn is in negotiations to direct Thor. Nothing has been confirmed as of yet. April 30, 2006: The legendary Norse Thunder deity, Thor, will hammer his way to the big screen with the help of screenwriter Mark Protosevich. Protosevich wrote one of this summer's highly-anticipated films, "Poseidon." His credits also include "The Cell." Source: 'Superherohype', 'Marvel Entertainment' December 15, 2004: A rumor recently made the internet rounds that David Goyer would be scripting a big screen adaptation of THOR. The rumor was seemingly confirmed when IESB.net chatted with Marvel guru Avi Arad at the premiere of BLADE: TRINITY and Arad let it slip that Goyer would indeed be penning the script. Check that interview HERE. However, IGN recently attended the Comic Book and Science Fiction Convention in LA where Goyer and the uber-hottie Jessica Biel were in attendance and when asked about Arad's comments, Goyer mentioned "has he been sniffing glue again?" Actually, according to IGN, "he was legitimately surprised to hear that Arad said he was scripting it. As far as Goyer knew, the deal was still only in the works." Goyer further added that he hopes to direct the film and that Triple H, who's in TRINITY is not the main contender for THOR. I guess the bottom line is that Goyer is involved in some capacity with a deal hopefully soon to be worked out." Thanks to 'JoBlo' for the news! |
