Chris Nolan to Mentor ‘Superman’ Reboot!
By FavaBeans | February 11, 2010
As reported by DarkHorizons:
He returned the once shunned “Batman” franchise to its rightful place at the top of the superhero film chain, now Deadline Hollywood Daily reports that “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight” director Christopher Nolan will try the same with the “Superman” franchise, albeit less involved.
According to the site, the studio plans to essentially reboot the franchise and have enlisted Nolan’s help to ‘mentor’ the film’s development and production. Nolan is highly unlikely to direct but would likely take on a major producer role while a more unknown but emerging promising talent to take the director’s chair.
Despite being a Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures co-production like 2006’s “Superman Returns”, the film will NOT be a continuation of that modestly-received feature which suffered budgetary overruns and so-so box-office. The project is still very much in the earliest of developmental stages so its tone and content are as yet unknown.

The Invaders Invade ‘Captain America’?
By FavaBeans | February 9, 2010
There was some rumblings last year that The Invaders would make an appearance in the Captain America movie, but at that time it wasn’t clear if they would just be a cameo or have a real juicy part in the film.
Now, director Joe Johnston has confirmed to CHUD.com, that The Invaders will indeed have a major part in the movie: “They’ll be in the entire second half” he said.
The Invaders team consists of heroes like Namor, Bucky, Silver Scorpion, Union Jack and The Human Torch. No, not that one, the original Human Torch and not the Fantastic Four version. It has not been confirmed which members of The Invaders would appear in the movie. Some other members that might appear are: Spitfire (Union Jack’s daughter), Blazing Skull (doubt it, as this character resembles Ghost Rider a lot), The Thin Man (think Plastic Man), and Blue Bullet.

‘Captain America’ Villian confirmed; plus costume news!
By FavaBeans | February 8, 2010

Director Joe Johnston has confirmed that the Red Skull will be the villian in the movie. Johnston was quoted to saying this in a recent Shocktillyoudrop interview:
“Virtually the entire story except the bookends are in World War II because we all recognize we have one chance to tell the origin story of how he became Captain America, you can’t tell a modern story and then go back and tell the origin story. If you’re going to do it, let’s do it. Let’s do it first. Everyone wanted to tell an origin story. There was a version where it was a modern story and it didn’t work.”
In other Captain America news, Joe Johnston also talked about the costume to LA Times:
“The costume is a flag, but the way we’re getting around that is we have Steve Rogers forced into the USO circuit,” Johnston said. “After he’s made into this super-soldier, they decide they can’t send him into combat and risk him getting killed. He’s the only one and they can’t make more. So they say, ‘You’re going to be in this USO show’ and they give him a flag suit. He can’t wait to get out of it.”
“In the first USO sequences, the frustrated patriot will be wearing a version that is closer to the classic Jack Kirby-designed costume, but then later as the super-soldier hits the war zone he will be wearing a sturdier, more muted version that he makes himself that is more like battle togs. The stripes across his mid-section, for instance, will be straps, not colored fabric.”

Best CBM Casting of All Time – Michael Caine VS. Frank Langella
By FavaBeans | February 5, 2010
Stuart Townsend squeaks by as his Dorian Gray defeats Naseeruddin Shah’s Captain Nemo 6-5, in last week’s match up.
**I just want to remind everyone voting to include, clearly, who you are voting for. Posting a general comment on who you think should win may not get counted if your vote isn’t clearly stated. “My vote is for…. ” is ideal.
Also, it’s important to note that you are voting for casting, not the character itself, or if the two would win a fight. You are voting on who you beleive was the better casting choice for the character.
The game works like this – Each week 2 actors/actresses will be matched up against one another (randomnly, there’s is no bias in the match-ups), and it’s up to you, the fans, to decide who was the better choice to play the part. At the end, the winner with the most votes moves on to the next round. A new match up will be posted every Friday and will last one week!
Continue on to learn more and vote on this week’s match up!

‘Sgt. Rock’ Set to Fight the Future!
By FavaBeans | February 2, 2010
Source: Superherohype
Producer Joel Silver revealed to the Los Angeles Times that comic book adaptation Sgt. Rock has found new life at Warner Bros. Pictures, but that the film won’t take place in WWII. Instead, the plan is for Sgt. Rock to serve his country in the not-too-distant future.
“It’s a little bit in the future,” Silver said. “As a war movie, it’s not going to be ‘where it’s been,’ it’s going to be ‘where it’s going.’ We didn’t want to do Iraq, we didn’t want to do a contemporary war. We wanted to do a sort of futuristic war. It’s pretty strong. Chad St. John wrote the script and we’ve got Francis Lawrence involved in developing it with us. It’s not a ‘go’ movie yet but I’m feeling good about it.”
As far as the status, Silver added that they just received a new draft of the script this week.
