Who Are the Mary Jane Candiates?

By FavaBeans | August 21, 2010

Imogen Poots, Ophelia Lovibond and Lily Collins are said to be in contention to play the love interest role in the upcoming reboot of the “Spider-Man” franchise for Sony Pictures reports Heat Vision.

One thing of note, the character of Mary Jane Watson (whom Kirsten Dunst played in the previous films) will NOT be the main love interest character for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield). It’s unsure if Parker’s other love interest from the comics, Gwen Stacy, or a new character will serve the purpose.

The trio join Teresa Palmer and Emma Roberts who have both already read for the part. Mary Elizabeth Winstead was also in contention but has apparently fallen out of the running.

Screen tests however aren’t underway yet so it’s likely other names will potentially join the list in coming weeks. Shooting on the film kicks off in December.

Major ‘X-Men: First Class’ Details!

By FavaBeans | August 20, 2010

xmen_first_class_1Source: Superherohype/AICN
Major details have emerged from Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class. The following comes from AICN’s informal phone call with producer Bryan Singer:

First Class is said to take place in the 1960’s and will heavily play with the style of the day. Audiences will see John F. Kennedy as President and the parallel storyline of Martin Luther King and Malcolm X will play in the background. Overall, the look is said to emulate the original X-Men costumes far more than previous films have, though the films’ chronology pre-dates the First Class story in the comics, meaning that many of the expected characters (Cyclops and Marvel Girl are listed by name) will not appear.

The villain of the film is, as rumored, Sebastian Shaw (played by Kevin Bacon). January Jones’ Emma Frost will appear as the Hellfire Club’s White Queen as well.

The central focus of the film is the friendship between Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Eric Lensherr (Michael Fassbender) and how it falls apart. Xavier will not be depicted as bald or in a wheelchair for the majority of the film, though we will learn what cripples him.

AICN’s article makes frequent James Bond comparisons, noting that the film will heavily play up the 60’s style, but with retro future technology with a setting that spans the globe. Russia, specifically, is mentioned.

X-Men: First Class is slated to hit theaters on June 3, 2011.

Joss Whedon Talks ‘The Avengers’!

By FavaBeans | August 18, 2010

http://video.about.com/movies/Joss-Whedon-Avengers.htm

Here are some tidbits from the interview:

Regarding Mark Ruffalo: “To me, I wanted Mark because he connects with you. He is a guy who you feel that he is you and he reaches out to you in a way that I don’t feel the performances as Banner have really done. And this also has to do with the way the narrative works, but I feel I wanted to come at Banner and The Hulk visually from a new place”

Regarding Jeremy Renner: “I’d like to say that I came up with [Jeremy] Renner but they had Renner in their sights. I spent weeks – because it didn’t look like that was going to happen – I spent weeks trying to think of somebody else and I couldn’t get him out of my head. I’d try and make lists and they’re like – it looked like I was getting married. ‘Jeremy Renner, Jeremy Renner, Jeremy Renner, Jeremy Renner. Mrs Josh Renner.’”

Karl Urban has been confirmed to play the titular role of enforcer “Judge Dredd” in the upcoming film reboot of the franchise reports Empire Online.

Urban had been rumoured for the role last month, but producers Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich finally confirmed the news at Movie Con in the UK over the weekend.

They also talked briefly about their plans for the tone – “Our idea is to make a very hard, R-rated, gritty, realistic movie of Dredd in Megacity, so we’ve got to get the tone right. He’s not going to take off his helmet. His bike is going to feel real. He’s going to hit people and it’s going to feel real.”

Pete Travis directs the project which will “not [be] based on any one comic” and much of the crew from “District 9″ will work in the same capacities on this. Shooting kicks off in Johannesburg, South Africa later this year.
