By FavaBeans | February 24, 2010

doc savageAs reported on Superherohype:
Columbia Pictures has hired Shane Black (Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, Lethal Weapon) to direct Doc Savage, the Man of Bronze who was originally published in American pulp magazines during the 1930s and 1940s.

Doc Savage was created by publisher Henry W. Ralston and editor John L. Nanovic at Street and Smith Publications, with additional material contributed by the series’ main writer, Lester Dent.

Black will direct from a screenplay he is writing with Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry. Neal Moritz will produce through his Sony-based Original Film.

“Doc Savage is an icon, a character with limitless possibilities,” said Columbia co-president Matt Tolmach, “We have had a great experience working with Neal to bring another classic character of the era, the Green Hornet, to a new generation of fans, and we think he and Shane make the ideal team to bring Doc Savage back to the bigscreen.”

Ron Ely previously played Doc Savage in the 1975 Warner Bros. release, Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze. That film was directed by Michael Anderson.

Best CBM Casting of All Time – Joe Pantoliano VS. Ryan Reynolds

By FavaBeans | February 19, 2010

It was close till the very end, but, Devon Aoki squeaks by with the win, defeating Jim Carrey’s Riddler 11-8

We’re getting down to the last few match ups of this round. The next round promises to be tough as we get down to the real contenders!

**I just want to remind everyone voting to include, clearly, who you are voting for. Posting a general comment on who you think should win may not get counted if your vote isn’t clearly stated. “My vote is for…. ” is ideal. Also, it’s important to note that you are voting for casting, not the character itself, or if the two would win a fight. You are voting on who you beleive was the better casting choice for the character.

The game works like this – Each week 2 actors/actresses will be matched up against one another (randomnly, there’s is no bias in the match-ups), and it’s up to you, the fans, to decide who was the better choice to play the part. At the end, the winner with the most votes moves on to the next round.  A new match up will be posted every Friday and will last one week!

Continue on to learn more and vote on this week’s match up!

James Cameron & Marc Webb Talked About the Spider-Man Reboot

By Landfill | February 17, 2010

james cameron marc webb spider manIf you didn’t know already, James Cameron is a big Spider-man fan. He’s said numerous times in the past that if he had the chance to do a comic book movie, he’d only want to make a Spider-man film. At one point, Cameron even wrote a treatment for the webslinger but that deal never went through and we eventually settled for Sam Raimi.

Last news we reported on, the Spider-man reboot was looking to be transformed into 3 dimensions for a release date sometime in 2012. Seeing as how Cameron has mastered the technique, why wouldn’t you want to discuss the format with the Avatar director? Read the rest of this entry »

Another Release Date Change for ‘The Losers’

By Landfill | February 17, 2010

losers 2Last time we reported on the upcoming CBM directed by Sylvain White, we told you The Losers were moving from their original release date of April 9th, to June 4th. According to Coming Soon, Warner Bros. realized they were a week away from a similar film, The A-Team, and didn’t want direct competition with something so similar.

Turns out the studio decided to move the upcoming CBM back to April but this time on the 23rd. This time around The Losers won’t have direct competition with Clash of the Titans, but SNL’s MacGruber and Oliver Stone’s Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.

‘Dark Knight’ Sequel Moves Forward

By Landfill | February 13, 2010

dark knight sequelIt’s been a long time coming but today we might have some legitimate news concerning another Batman film with a Nolan involved. It’s being reported that David Goyer is stepping down as the show runner for the ABC show FlashForward and returning to feature films.

This from Goyer:

As my feature projects have started ramping up again, I felt I was being pulled in too many directions. I’m proud of the show and excited about the relaunch. It’s in great hands.

We’ve reported on how Goyer’s been really busy lately with all his projects starting to gain steam and the possibility that he would have to step back from directing say, Magneto, and sit in the producers chair. FlashForward seemed like a guaranteed Goyer time waster but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Read the rest of this entry »

Release Date Change for ‘The Losers’

By Landfill | February 13, 2010

losersIf you couldn’t wait any longer for The Losers to premiere in a few months on April 9th, I have some bad news for you. According to Warner Bros. Louis Leterrier’s Clash of the Titans is getting the 3rd dimension treatment causing that film to be pushed back. Of course they didn’t want their two summer blockbusters to go head to head so they moved the upcoming CBM directed by Sylvain White back one month.

The film starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Zoe Saldana and Idris Elba will be moving to the 4th of June. I know it’s not the best news in the world but at least we’re getting to see it sometime this year.  Read the rest of this entry »
