October 19, 2004: A scooper, who wishes to remain anonymous, sends us an update: "Books of Magic is in development at Warner Brothers with Jeff Stockwell writing. There may be a director attached which I need to confirm first." No confirmation on this as of yet. June 13, 2004: Swedish directors Simon Sandquist and Joel Bergvall have signed on to helm Warner Bros. Pictures' big-screen adaptation of DC Comics' Books of Magic, says The Hollywood Reporter. The comic, about a bespectacled teenager learning magic in contemporary London, is seen as a precursor to Harry Potter. It was first published as a mini-series by the DC in 1990. Neil Gaiman, the author of the original story and the novel, will serve as executive producer. |
