Janaury 19, 2006: "Bryce Dallas Howard, star of "The Village" and the upcoming "Manderlay" and "Lady in the Water," has been cast as Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man 3, reports Ain't-It-Cool-News. The site received the news from Marvel Studios' Avi Arad: As of about an hour ago, the contract was signed. Sam Raimi and Avi Arad have their sweetheart. They've cast young Bryce Howard, yes, Ron Howard's daughter - the one playing the title character in M Night's next film. Bryce is just about the hottest young emerging talent out there right now - and she is, like her father once was, a redhead... but like Ron - she's going b... no, not bald, but BLONDE - hopefully Platinum Blonde for the role of Gwen Stacy." - Thanks to 'Superherohype' for the heads up!

December 14, 2005: UK's What's on TV magazine reports that "Hustle" and "The Day After Tomorrow" star Adrian Lester will join Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst in Spider-Man 3. "I'll be going straight from promoting 'Hustle' to filming 'Spider-Man 3'," he said. "I haven't even had a script yet. All I know is that I'm playing a research scientist who tries to cure the baddie of whatever badness he's got. I don't even know who the new baddie is!" -Thanks to 'Superherohype' for the heads up.

September 27, 2005: In a recent interview, conducted by Zap2it, Kirsten Dunst was quoted as saying: "We have really great people though as the villains in this film, Thomas Haden Church and Topher Grace -- Venom and Sandman," said Dunst, who plays Mary Jane Watson in the Spidey films. "Maybe I wasn't supposed to say that," she added before reversing her claim. "It's the other way around. You're right," she conceded to a journalist." - Oops, sounds like its out of the bag now!

September 9, 2005: Rumours are flying around all over the place and to be honest I wasn't going to post this because it was too far fetched... but a rumour is a rumour: FreezeDriedMovies is now reporting that Topher Grace will be playing Venom in the upcoming Spidey sequel. June 27, 2005: 'KIDrenegade619' sends this in: "A little over 2 weeks ago I was watching the show "Attack Of The Show" on Tech TV and they had Bruce Campbell on talking about his newest movie, and the subject of Spidey came up and to quote Bruce himself "I'm signed on for a much larger role than mere usher in Spiderman 3" so this could be just about anything although yet unkown what. " -Hmmmm... very interesting. We'll keep you posted!

June 22, 2005: Marvel CEO Avi Arad updates on Spider-man 3: While insisting that rumors of a simultaneous third and fourth "Spider-Man" movie shoot are simply "not true," Arad did confirm that Dylan Baker will return for the third film — a noteworthy nugget for comic fans who recall that Baker's handicapped character, Dr. Curt Connors, went on to become Spider-Man nemesis the Lizard in the comic books. Although Thomas Haden Church and Topher Grace are set to play the main, as-yet-unnamed villains of the third film, the seeds are apparently being planted for Spidey to also someday take on a superhumanly strong, green-scaled monster.

May 20, 2005: Topher Grace has joined the cast of Spider-Man 3, it was announced by director Sam Raimi and producers Laura Ziskin and Marvel Studio's Avi Arad. Grace will join Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, and Thomas Haden Church in the blockbuster franchise. Spider-Man 3 is scheduled for release on May 4, 2007, and will reunite returning cast members with director Sam Raimi and producers Ziskin and Arad, the successful filmmaking team responsible for the first two films. The "Spider-Man" film franchise has grossed more than $1.5 billion in worldwide ticket sales to date. Production on Spider-Man 3, which was written by Alvin Sargent, is scheduled to begin early next year. "I couldn't be more excited about the direction we are taking the continuing adventures of Peter Parker," said Raimi. "Topher Grace is an extraordinarily talented actor and will be perfect for the complexities of the role we are developing." While speculation continues about which characters will be called into action, the studio will not comment on the new roles beyond confirming the casting of Grace and Church. -Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

May 14, 2005: Ain't-It-Cool-News has received an interesting rumor about Spider-Man 3 and Spider-Man 4: "Someone like Griddlecake Troutwater, whom's eyes are all over Stage 20 on the Sony lot. According to him that Stage is finishing up construction on the areas to house Costume & Wardrobe Department... but not just for SPIDER-MAN 3... the current rumor on the lot is [Sam] Raimi is going to be shooting 3 & 4 together. Now, amongst the tests Spidey crew have been shooting during the last few weeks, well they've used alot of SAND I hear. Sand being blown around." -Thanks to 'Ain't-it-cool-news' for the news!

March 29, 2005: According to AICN spies, Spider-man 3 will feature Sandman as the main villian, played by Thomas Haden Church: "Hey folks, Harry here... Multiple spies at Sony have confirmed that Thomas Hayden Church will indeed be playing SANDMAN. There's a ton of Sandman conceptual art all over the Spidey-offices!" Take this rumour with a grain of salt until an announcement is made official from SONY. -Thanks to 'Dimitri' for the heads up!

March 23, 2005: Thomas Haden Church, who was most recently nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in "Sideways," has been cast as Spider-Man's new archenemy in the next chapter of the "Spider-Man" adventure, it was announced by director Sam Raimi and producers Laura Ziskin and Marvel Studios' Avi Arad. Spider-Man 3, which is scheduled for release on May 4, 2007, will reunite the successful team that was responsible for the first two blockbuster films. The franchise has grossed more than $1.5 billion in worldwide ticket sales and the new film will again reteam director Raimi, producers Ziskin and Arad, and actors Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Kirsten Dunst as M.J. Production on Spider-Man 3 is scheduled to begin early next year. "In addition to the on-going relationship between Peter Parker and M.J., these films are driven by the great actors who have brought our villains to life," said Raimi. "Thomas Haden Church will be a fantastic and challenging new nemesis and we all look forward to working with him." The identity of the new villain is being kept secret and while speculation is rampant about which character is being called into action, the studio will not comment on the casting beyond confirming Church. -Thanks to everyone who emailed this in!!

February 2, 2005: Sam Raimi talks to Now Playing Mag and reveals that a villian is indeed locked, but doesn't reveal who it will be: "“Alvin Sargent is writing the screenplay right now,” Raimi says. “I’m not supposed to [talk about the villain]. When Sony Pictures decides to release the villain they do it in conjunction with Marvel Comic books. Avi Arad is the president there and my producer, and they’re really the ones that decide how they’re going to present this to the fans of the comic and they love doing it with a lot of drama and a big splash. So they consult with me, but it’s really something… they really want to please the fans and do it in a very particular way.” A lot of fans have high hopes that the villain in Spidey 3 will be Venom, a more modern foe for the wallcrawler than the first two films’ Green Goblin and Doc Ock. Of course, Raimi isn’t saying whether we’ll see the symbiote-suited Venom in the next film or not, but he does explain that the choice of villains also comes down to a balance between character and the cool visual aspect that modern special effects allow. “Absolutely we wanted to have a villain not only who would fulfill the character needs but somebody who could entertain the audience on a visceral level and provide great visuals, something we haven’t seen before, and create a real challenge and great foe for Spider-Man and his unique spidery, spider-like powers,” says Raimi. Thanks to 'Now Playing Mag'

January 13, 2005: Variety is reporting that Alvin Sargent is signed on to write not only SPIDER-MAN 3, but with an option to write SPIDER-MAN 4. Which is contrary to news earlier last year that Sony planned to only make 3 of these films. So - if the third is the success we all know [Sam] Raimi and crew will make it, then it'll just be about Sony pushing enough million dollar bills in front of talent to get them all aboard. -thanks to 'Hellsbuttmonkey' for the heads up!

November 30, 2004: Speaking with Sci-Fi Wire, Director Sam Raimi announced that he and his brother Ivan are still in the earliest stages of writing a third "Spider-Man" movie: "We've finished a 50-page document and now I'm working with my storyboard artist to work out some of the visuals...and I'm about to start working with Alvin Sargent [who received the "Screenplay by" credit on Spider-Man 2] on the first draft of the screenplay." Raimi confirmed he's still undecided about the bad guy, toying around with different possibilities for a chief villain or villains to duke it out with Peter Parker - "I actually haven't figured it out just yet. I'm trying to determine Peter Parker's journey as a human being, what it is that he'll be learning on this next adventure, as a kid growing up, what life lessons [he'll experience]. Once I know what that is, I'm going to try to develop obstacles in his path, like any dramatic writer would do. And out of those conflicts will come the drama. Either he'll be able to overcome these conflicts or he won't. But once I know his journey, and therefore the conflicts that are in his path, I'll choose that villain that best represents those conflicts. That's the way in which I've been approaching this, and I'm still not quite there in determining the villain." The third "Spiderman" is scheduled for May 4th 2007. Thanks to 'Darkhorizons' for the heads up!

October 11, 2004: Sam Raimi surprised a lot of press this weekend when he revealed that Columbia Pictures intends for "Spider-Man 3" to be the final film in the series. Seems, Sony's film head Amy Pascal has made it clear that she wants a definitive finale and so all the loose threads from the last two films must be tied up. So what does that mean story wise? Raimi spoke to LatinoReview about the possibilities and what that might mean for the Harry Osborn/Hobgoblin arc: "I'm not sure what's in Harry's mind. I'm trying to figure that out right now. It's like if you blamed someone for the death of your father all these years and someone who was supposedly this hero, vigilante, and then you realized that your father was a mass murderer, it might change things...As much of a responsibility as I have to the fans of the comic books, I also have an equal responsibility to be true to the intelligence of the character as portrayed in the Spider-Man movies". Despite Pascal's intentions, Raimi seemed keen on working on further Spidey movies if he were allowed to but will concede to her wishes for now - "One thing that Amy Pascal told me was that she wants to make this a proper ending to the Spider-Man saga. I'd like to keep directing Spider-Man movies but I think she's thinking that the audience feels they want to see one more and no more. They want to have a proper ending to the story now. So I think maybe she's right, and so I'm approaching it under her guidance and that's how I'm trying to think of this film as the end". Thanks to 'DarkHorizons' for the news.

October 10, 2004: An 'Anonymous' scooper claims he has heard, from a "Hollywood Insider", that Lindsay Lohan was being considered for a part in the next Spider-man movie. He goes on to say she might be up for a character named Firestarter or Firestar. In the old 80's cartoon "Spider-man and His Amazing Friends" Spider-man teams up with Iceman and a one Firestar, aka Angelica Jones. Hmmm... We'll have to wait and she if this pans out. Thanks to 'Nathan' and 'Sean' for the Firestar info.

July 21, 2004: Sam Raimi on the Spider-man 3 story: "It's going to follow the natural progression of the growth of these two individuals, Mary Jane Watson and Peter Parker. It will be a love story and it will track the relationship as they encounter new conflicts that separate them. And hopefully their own will and love for each other will bring them back together in the piece. Harry will be a problem, but I'm not certain if Harry will become the Goblin or not. The thing I'm really not certain about is if he comes to feel, "Now I have the means to destroy Spider-Man - I was too weak before but now I have a way and I will become the man that my father always dreamed I could be." Or, does he feel: "Now I understand why Spider-Man had to destroy him, because he was a mass murderer and now my anger can drain away from me." It could be an answer to a question and it ends the pursuit, but I'm not certain which way to go." Thanks to 'Alex' for sending this in

July 13, 2004: We've heard this one before, back in February: "An interesting rumor has surfaced that Eliza Dushku, who read for the Mary Jane part in Spidey, might return in the third film as The Black Cat. Just a rumor, folks, but a neat one at that." Thanks to Superherohype.com

June 1, 2004: MAJOR SPIDER-MAN 2 SPOLIERS AHEAD! LOOK AWAY NOW IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW THE ENDING OF SPIDER-MAN 2...................................

.............................

Still here? Really? You want to be spoiled?? The movie comes out in like 3 weeks.... you sure?

OK... here goes: "The graphic novel for Spiderman 2 is in stores. Not able to help myself, I flipped to the back of the book to see if the ending I had envisioned to happen was true, and low and behold, it was. Before Peter Parker and Mary Jane finish up there story, we get a scene with Harry going mental in his fathers office with the Peter Parker/Spiderman problem. He ends up tossing a brandy glass into the same mirror Norman was looking into in the first movie, shatters it, and finds his fathers goblin outfit, the glider, and some weaponry. He also hears his fathers voice speak to him in his head, telling to get revenge for his death. I believe the seen ends with Harry picking up the mask and starting too laugh "an all to familiar laugh". Thus with this setup, even if they go ahead with the John Jameson/Vemon story, chances are you will see Harry Osborne donning the suit, becoming either the Green or Hobgoblin in the third movie" Thanks to a Darkhorizons scooper!

May 18, 2004: AICN has landed a scoop about the third "Spider-Man" movie currently in development at Sony. Rumours emerged a few days ago that the hunter Kraven and The Chameleon would be the villains, this report not only refutes that but mentions the name of the villain most fans have been clamoring to see in a third film - be warned as there are MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD for the second film in this:

"I worked at Sony while they were putting together the script for #2 and fleshing out the basic story for #3 and I tell you, the last guy who left that stupid stuff about Kraven and The Chameleon was totally wrong. Spider Man 2 will leave off with a bit of a cliffhanger which will lead to #3, which will be friggin' AWESOME! Trust me, the villain WILL be VENOM. As you will see in #2 Mary Jane will marry J.J. Jameson's son who is an astronaut and planning to go up into space. This will pull Mary Jane away from Peter and in Peter's eyes keep her "safe". Well hold on, while in space J.J. Jameson's son will be infected by some weird alien organism. The alien will travel back to earth with him and J.J. Jameson's son will either become VENOM or Peter will be infected with VENOM and go on a rampage. Either way Spider Man will have to KILL J.J. Jameson's son/Mary Jane's husband in the end, which will bring Peter and Mary-Jane back together again. That's what I read as the summary of Spider Man #3, as you know they can change it, but from what I read, it will be Friggin' BAD ASS!!! You will be blown away, Sam really is the man when it comes to directing these things" . Thanks to DarkHorizons.com and Aint-it-Cool-News.

May 7, 2004: J.K. Simmons, who reprises his role as J. Jonah Jameson in the upcoming Spider-Man 2, told SCI FI Wire that he's already on board for Spider-Man 3. "I am absolutely signed up and ready, willing and able and excited about doing Spider-Man 3," Simmons said in an interview. "I think the original plan was to do them every other year, but then [Spider-Man 2] ended up getting a little bit delayed, so we're doing a late June release instead of May. They like that Memorial Day slot, so I think that's the reason for doing a [May 4] 2007 release." Thanks to Superherohype.com for the heads up!

April 21, 2004: Daniel Gillies, the actor told of a stipulation in his contract when he signed on to play John Jameson. "Yep, I had to agree to come back for the third one. No big secret that there's going to be a third one, it was recently announced publicly, and yep, I'm back. And after all, movies seem to be all about trilogies these days don't they?"

What about renegotiations? "For more money? No, that hasn’t even started yet. We have to get through the publicity tour of the second one first" Thanks to Darkhorizons.com

March 3, 2004: During a Q4 earnings conference call on Tuesday, Marvel Studios chairman-CEO Avi Arad said that "Spider-Man 3 is in development" and that a "contemplated release date will be probably 2007." Arad said the pic could possibly bow in 2006, but that "It is a big movie, and we would rather play it safe and talk about the 2007 at this point." There have been reports that director Sam Raimi has committed to making the movie, and agents and managers for Tobey Maguire (aka Peter Parker), have been working around a tentative "Spider-Man 3" schedule when booking the thesp for other projects.

February 16, 2004: HotDog Magazine reports that Eliza Dushku (Faith from "Buffy"/"Angel") is Sam Raimi's favourite choice for the role of Felicia Hardy (aka. The Black Cat).

January 14, 2003: According to an Australian newspaper, yet to be confirmed, 'Spider-man' is part of a trilogy of pictures and the actors have all signed on to a 3-picture deal. The article went on to say ""...audiences can look forward to a vision of the Man-Wolf, an astronaut who mutates into a creature after handling some moon rock during a space expedition." No confirmation on this article has been made. We'll keep you posted, and if you spot this article. please send it in.

October 13, 2003: From CountingDown: "I've heard that Sony has already got Sam [Raimi] committed to doing SPIDER-MAN 3, though that hasn't officially broke yet. However, after SPIDER-MAN 2 thrashes every record that SPIDER-MAN set and as excitement reaches the TILT stage with SPIDER-MAN 3... there's a strong chance that the 4th EVIL DEAD could happen."

September 26, 2003: Here is an outrageous rumors going around: Kevin Bacon as Eddie Brock aka Venom! Talk amoung yoursleves.

April 7, 2003: Actor Vin Diesel on E! News Live confirmed recent rumours that he'd play Venom are bullcrap.

November 28, 2002: Zentertainment has received an interesting rumour about the baddies in a potential third Spidey flick: "One idea being tossed around is to feature Venom and Carnage as the main villains. Marvel has petitioned Sam Raimi to have these characters as the main villains instead of secondary characters in an effort to avoid the horrible mistake made by Warner Bros. in the megaflop, Batman & Robin, when Bane was made into a retarded henchman. Casting suggestions have also been thrown out inlcuding Vin Diesel, and The Rock for Eddie Brock and Sam Rockwell and Christian Bale for Cletus Kassady".
