December 27, 2006: The official teaser site has gone live. Not much to it at the moment. Check it out here.

December 7, 2006: According to the uber cool folks at Latino Review, Rachel McAdams is up for the role of Virginia "Pepper" Potts: Here's the clip: "My super source tells me that the IRON MAN script went out EXCLUSIVELY to the superhot Rachel McAdams! Now I am not saying that she is going to take the part, merely saying that she is their top choice. Some background on the character... Virginia "Pepper" Potts is an executive secretary to Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man. Pepper was originally infatuated with Tony and responded to the attentions of Stark's chauffeur and assistant Happy Hogan with caustic remarks. However, she eventually fell in love with and married Hogan. She is in her early 20's, 5'4" and 110lbs with "glowing auburn" hair. Later, Pepper divorces Happy Hogan and her initial infatuation with Stark returns, and they decide to be friends. She is aware of Stark's secret identity.

October 11, 2006: Terrence Howard is set to join Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man, reports Variety. Howard will play Jim "Rhodey" Rhodes, the confidante of Iron Man's alter ego, Tony Stark. Rhodes, a high ranking military officer and aviator, steers the team that develops the robotic suit that allows the sickly Stark to fly around and battle bad guys. In the comic, Rhodes' character gets his own armored suit and evolves into an occasionally antagonistic character called War Machine. That development seems likely to be saved for the sequel, though, as Iron Man will battle villain the Mandarin when shooting begins in February in L.A. "The suit is purely an innovative creation, so this is Marvel meets Tom Clancy technology," Marvel Studios production president Kevin Feige said. "Having the best actors for the key roles allows them to inhabit the hyperkinetic reality of this world." -Thanks to 'Superherohype' for the news and 'RyanOC' for the heads up!

Based upon Marvel's iconic Super Hero, Iron Man tells the story of Tony Stark, a billionaire industrialist and genius inventor who is kidnapped and forced to build a devastating weapon. Instead, using his intelligence and ingenuity, Tony builds a high-tech suit of armor and escapes captivity. Upon his return to America, Tony must come to terms with his past. September 19, 2006: I don't know this Brandon Perlow, but based on his designs of Iron Man, I'm betting he's one cool dude. Visual Effects artist Brandon Perlow, who has does movie and TV effects, has come up with the designs below. Looks pretty good to me. According to ScreenRant.com, these designs were rejected by the filmmakers, stating "they want to go with a more Adi Granov look". The first thumbnail is a Granov-inspired design. Click the thumbnails to enlarge. What do you think of the designs? The discussion is brewing on our message boards.

July 23, 2006: Iron Man director Jon Favreau confirmed at the San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday that the villain in the movie will be fan-favorite Mandarin! June 21, 2006: "According to a scooper for Superhero Hype, Jon Favreau dropped another juicy tidbit on the development of IRON MAN. According to the director, Tony Stark will be unleashing his particular brand of kick-ass-ery on all of us May 2008." - Thanks to JoBlo for the news and RyanOC for the heads up! UPDATE: Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment will kick off the 2008 summer movie-going season on May 2nd with Iron Man, the first motion picture to be produced by Marvel under its alliance with Paramount, it was announced today by Rob Moore, President, Worldwide Marketing, Distribution, and Operations, Paramount Pictures; Michael Helfant, President and COO, Marvel Studios; and Kevin Feige, president of production for Marvel Studios. Marvel Studios is a subsidiary of Marvel Entertainment, Inc. Jon Favreau will direct the film, based on Marvel's best-selling "Iron Man" comic book character. Based upon Marvel's iconic Super Hero, the film will follow billionaire weapons-manufacturer, Tony Stark, who confronts the sins of his past after he is injured by one of his own weapons. Equipped with a high-tech suit of armor, he becomes Iron Man to combat evil on a global scale.

May 26, 2006: MTV talked to Jon Favreau, who is set to direct the first "Marvel financed" movie, Iron Man. Here are some interesting clips: "It's the first movie Marvel is self-financing," he said of a new deal that frees the makers of the "Spider-Man" and "X-Men" movies from studio control. "We're set to come out in the summer of '08, and we'll start shooting in January. "We're gonna have it take place in the present day, but there will be an origin story that has the old, gray Iron Man suit; eventually it will progress into more of the modern look," Favreau said. "That's the fun of doing the first one." The alcoholism doesn't come into play until later on in the story of Iron Man," he said. "[The comic] started off in the '60s, where it was about him as a successful manufacturer who developed this suit. Then, later, it spins off into that story about him fighting against himself. I think we're going to lay the groundwork for it, but the first one's going to explore him taking on this alter ego of Iron Man, and developing the suit, and what happens politically within the Stark Corporation." Mentioning an eventual "Iron Man 2," Favreau said that actor playing Tony Stark for his franchise is unlikely to be a major star (Tom Cruise was briefly attached to the role years ago). Instead, the director hopes to announce his discovery of a relative unknown from the Brandon Routh ("Superman Returns") mold later this year.
