March 1, 2004: Variety reports that Lions Gate Entertainment has inked a deal with Marvel Enterprises to produce three Marvel movies: Iron Fist, Black Widow, and the sequel to The Punisher. No release dates have been set yet for the films. Iron Fist had been in-development at the now defunct Artisan Entertainment, which previously had a deal with Marvel. (The Punisher, which opens April 16, also resulted from that arrangement.) There's no word yet if Ray Park is still attached to star as title character Danny Rand. Thanks to IGN FilmForce for the news. August 13, 2003: It looks as though, according to Marvel's financial statement, that Iron Fist has been pushed back from 2004 to sometime in 2005. The good news is Ray Park is still very much interested. June 2, 2003: Ray Park told The Comic Continuum that he remains interested in playing Iron Fist in a live-action film. "I still want to do it, of course," Park told The Continuum at Wizard World East in Philadelphia. "We better hurry before I get too old (laughs), but we're doing it." The film is set up as part of Marvel's deal with Artisan Entertainment, which also includes The Punisher. A screenplay for Iron Fist was written by John Turman. Kirk Wong at one time was attached as director but has fallen out of the project. "I get asked all the time when Iron Fist is going to happen," said Park, best known as Darth Maul in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace and Toad in X-Men. "I want to make the film happen." April 28, 2003: "Daddy Day Care" director Steve Carr has signed on to direct Iron Fist, the Marvel comic book adaptation at Artisan Entertainment. Carr makes no mention of previous reports that actor Ray Park is cast in the lead role. Artisan is currently targeting a 2004 release date for the adaptation. Steve Carr also directed "Dr. Dolittle 2" and "Next Friday". Thanks to Superherohype.com for the heads up! April 11, 2002: The "Iron Fist" movie is looking pretty unlikely to get into production this year despite a script being ready, a cast and a director all attached. Comics2Film reports that new writers have been brought in to have a go on the script while Director Kirk Wong is now set to start shooting the Wesley Snipes flick "When The Ride Is Ruff" this June. February 20, 2002: Starlog Australia reports Beyonce Knowles might play Iron Fist's lover Misty Night once her AP3 work is over. |
