News and Rumors:

June 29, 2005: The Hollywood News caught up with Hellboy star Ron Perlman and he talked about the sequel. A couple of our boys ventured down to the London Film and Comic Con in London at the weekend, and they attended one of the talks where Ron Perlman talked about Hellboy 2. He pretty much confirmed that the movie will enter pre-production Christmas time this year, and would shoot early 2006 for a late 2006/ early 2007 release.

June 22, 2005: Selma Blair, co-star of the upcoming sequel to Hellboy, told Sci-Fi Wire that production on the film has been tentatively scheduled to begin early 2007. "I just did The Fog with Revolution, and I was trying to pick their brains for when Hellboy will go. Apparently [director] Guillermo [del Toro]'s supposed to hand in a script any minute. I know there will probably be a long preproduction, so we'll probably start maybe January 2007" says Blair.

March 19, 2005: In an article at The Hollywood Reporter talking about Selma Blair having signed on for the remake of John Carpenter's classic The Fog, the trade mentions that she will shoot Hellboy II after she completes that horror-thriller. -Thanks to 'Superherohype' for the heads up!

September 9, 2004: Selma Blair has confirmed that not only is she signed up for "Hellboy 2", but production is on the way. "I've been sworn to secrecy by Guillermo", Selma said. "I know Guillermo is writing the script as we speak and I think we're going to be in production by September next year." The first Hellboy was shot in Prague, but Blair says she's unsure of where the next one will be shot. "Tons of places have been mentioned but nothing is decided yet". September 1, 2004: Empire Magazine spoke to writer/director Guillermo del Toro about the sequel to his hit movie "Hellboy": "First of all, what word on Hellboy 2 – and possibly beyond? Well, Guillermo is writing a sequel, along with comic creator Mike Mignola. "I would love to make Hellboy into a trilogy. Creatively, Mike Mignola and I know that we want to at least do that. Economically, it's the studio's decision." But what of the plot of the sequel? "We tried to do an entire sequel based on the Roger [a homunculus created by a scientist to bring about the end of the world] origin story, and found it to be actually very similar to what Hellboy is in the first movie — a conflicted monster. So the sequel will have another BPRD member, Johan the Ectoplasmic Agent." Thanks to 'Superherohype.com' for the news!

August 25, 2004: "Guillermo del Toro, Selma Blair and Ron Perlman presented Hellboy here in Berlin last night and were available for Q & A. Guillermo was very nice, funny and outspoken, but Ron and Selma seemed tired. They all confirmed that Hellboy 2 is signed and on the way, but Guillermo is at least making one other, smaller movie before that in spain. As for the story of Hellboy 2 Guillermo did not seem to have already made up his mind, but Abe and Selma's characters will get much more room and Kroenen seems not to come back in the first sequel. As they were not sure if there would be a sequel when making Hellboy, they tried to get as much good stuff from the comics into it as possible to have it on screen at least once. So many ideas were used up for Hellboy 1 and they seemingly have to search first for new ones to fill Hellboy 2." Thanks to 'CountingDown.com' for the news story which came from a 'AICN' scooper.

August 3, 2004: Guillermo del Toro spoke to Moviehole in an upcoming interview: "I start writing it in the Fall and then it'll depend on how fast we get a script we're all happy about and how fast we can work out a budget and a date. It's in the future, but I wouldn't put a date on it. In the next Hellboy adventure he'll (Doug Jones' Abe Sapien) have a more prominent role. She'll be back (Selma Blair). Jeffrey Tambor will be back. We will have a good class of weirdos around. " Thanks to Superherohype for the interview.

July 9, 2004: According to director Guillermo del Toro in a post recently made on the official Hellsite message boards, the Hellboy 2 storyline has been officially approved by Revolution Studios! "More on this later, but lemme say this: The storyline for it has been approved by Revolution and we are now clear to start the script." Thanks to CountingDown for the heads up!

June 19, 2004: At the recent DreamCon, with Ron Perlman being the honorary guest of honor, it was reported that Perlman said that actual filming for the film will start in about 14 months, or August 2005. As reported earlier, pre-production starts in January 2005.

May 25, 2004: Producer Lloyd Levin said to The Winnipeg Sun that "There's a huge Hellboy mythology to draw from, so we wouldn't run out of material if there was a demand for several sequels...It's essential not to let the budget of the sequels balloon. We brought Hellboy in on a modest budget ($65 million) and we intend sequels to be in the same ballpark". Thanks to "the punisher" for the heads up!

May 14, 2004: From The Hollywood Reporter: "Helmer Guillermo del Toro and producers Lawrence Gordon, Mike Richardson and Lloyd Levin are all back on board for "Hellboy 2," the sequel to Revolution Studios' hit comic book feature. Mike Mignola will develop the new story for "Hellboy 2" with del Toro. The feature film was based on Mignola's Dark Horse Entertainment television series. "'Hellboy' was a tremendously successful and unique project," Revolution partner Todd Garner said. "It was Guillermo's vision that brought the film to the marketplace, and we are delighted to be working with him again." Fellow Revolution partner Tom Sherak said: "We are excited to be making the sequel to 'Hellboy' and to be bringing back the amazing creative team that made it so memorable. The film was made for a relatively low cost and has performed magnificently here in the U.S., and we look forward to it continuing its successful run internationally."
