Anna is just elightful, and is here in Budapest with her 4 week old baby!!!!! I shall never complain about stress ever again for as long as I live (said Dougie, as he pictured 3am feedings before a work day). My hope is that you will fall in love with Anna as we all have on this end..."

April 27, 2007: Luke Goss, who appeared in Blade 2, has joined the cast of Hellboy 2. He talks about his role to shocktillyoudrop.com: "I've got so many restrictions from Universal it's ridiculous, but, I play 'the Prince' and in simplistic terminology he's the nemesis. The great thing about him is he's not trying to take over the world, he's a rounded character that's not just driven by greed and I think people are going to enjoy the depth Guillermo brings to him. Like with "Blade II," I'm a big fan of taking the maniacal out of anything. Certainly ten years ago it was like 'bad guy' meant 'maniacal villain' - they were great actors not in the best roles. Dr. Evil was created out of performances that were meant to be valid. From Guillermo's script, without giving it away, let's just say I'm a big fan of internal pain and anguish. All of these things elicit a truthful direction rather than just [fueled by] greed or ego. This character, the Prince, his father's the King so... It's just a bloody great role. Visually, it's stunning."

March 22, 2007: Official Synopsis: With a signature blend of action, humor and character-based spectacle, the saga of the world's toughest, kitten-loving hero from Hell continues to unfold in "Hellboy 2: The Golden Army." Bigger muscle, badder weapons and more ungodly villains arrive in an epic vision of imagination from Oscar®-nominated director Guillermo del Toro ("Pan's Labyrinth," "Hellboy"). After an ancient truce existing between humankind and the invisible realm of the fantastic is broken, hell on Earth is ready to erupt. A ruthless leader who treads the world above and the one below defies his bloodline and awakens an unstoppable army of creatures. Now, it's up to the planet's toughest, roughest superhero to battle the merciless dictator and his marauders. He may be red. He may be horned. He may be misunderstood. But when you need the job done right, it's time to call in Hellboy (Ron Perlman). And Hellboy, a creature of two worlds who's accepted by neither, must choose between the life he knows and an unknown destiny that beckons him.

February 13, 2007: Hellboy: The Golden Army has been given a August 1, 2008 release date.

October 18, 2006: IGN FilmForce caught up with Hellboy 2: The Golden Army director Guillermo del Toro, who gave the site an update on the sequel: "We are in preproduction," del Toro tells IGN of the film, which many observers had come to believe would never get a greenlight. "Both with Hellboy 1 and Hellboy 2, they happened right at the moment when we said, 'They're not happening. It looks like we better move on.' And at that moment something happened that made them go ahead. We have Francisco Ruiz Velasco, Wayne Barlowe, TyRuben Ellingson, [and] Mike Mignola designing creatures right now, and we have the movie being budgeted in London and in Budapest. We hope to start shooting next year." Del Toro also adds, "I must say that I'm having a great experience right now at Universal, because I find that their understanding of Hellboy as a possibility is so great. My hope is that if everything goes well and we continue [the franchise], Hellboy can start fighting the Universal monsters! I would love to see that". - Thanks to 'DarkHorizons' and 'Superherohype' for the news!

August 3, 2006: Guillermo del Toro will direct Universal Pictures' Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, which will continue the exploits of the humanoid hero from Hell and his partners in the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Development. "Hellboy 2," a Lawrence Gordon/Lloyd Levin production in association with Dark Horse Entertainment, will begin principal photography in April 2007 in Budapest and London, with pre- and post-production based in London. The film will be released worldwide in the summer of 2008. "Hellboy 2" will be directed by Guillermo del Toro, who most recently directed the elaborate fantasy "Pan's Labyrinth," which was received enthusiastically at this year's Cannes Film Festival and will be released in December. The screenplay for "Hellboy 2" is written by Guillermo del Toro, from a screen story by Mike Mignola and del Toro, based upon the Dark Horse comic created by Mike Mignola and the 2004 motion picture Hellboy. The first installment, released by Revolution Studios in 2004, earned $100 million at the worldwide box-office and became a cult sensation when released on DVD. The character continues to be a top-seller in publishing and collectibles and is now expanding into animation and games. "Hellboy 2" will be produced by Lawrence Gordon, Lloyd Levin and Mike Richardson. Chris Kenny is the executive producer of the film, with Mike Mignola serving as co-producer. Ron Perlman returns to the title role as Hellboy, a humanoid creature born in the flames of Hell and brought to Earth as an infant. Raised in secret, the adolescent "HB" becomes an agent for the secret Bureau for Paranormal Research and Development (BPRD), a covert government agency which serves as the planet's line of defense against otherworldly evil. Selma Blair will also reprise the role of Liz Sherman, a pyrokinetic human who is HB's colleague and love interest. "Hellboy 2" will expand the world of Hellboy and surround him with characters both new and familiar as he confronts a deadly threat to mankind. In making the announcement, Universal Pictures Chairman Marc Shmuger and Co-Chairman David Linde stated, "All of us at Universal are delighted to be part of the continuing adventures of Hellboy and his universe, as there are few properties which offer this unique blend of action, humor and character- based spectacle. We are incredibly excited by the potential of this film and even more so to be working with Guillermo del Toro, whose vision for this film has ignited the fanboy imagination in all of us."

June 9, 2006: Director Guillermo Del Toro, at the Fangoria Weekend Show, dropped some scoopage on the status of his upcoming sequel HELLBOY 2. According to Del Toro, "We’re moving studios right now. They don’t have a deal with Sony any more and we are looking for financing for HELLBOY 2. It’s at Paramount right now. It’s bigger in scale, but not necessarily in budget. Abe Sapien has a much bigger part, and we’re keeping closer to the mythology of the comics."

May 8, 2006: Ron Perlman gives an update to Sci-Fi about Hellboy 2: The Golden Army saying that a studio "is pounding away at looking at the budget and has expressed a huge enthusiasm for [Guillermo del Toro]'s script and the desire to do the project. Now they're just pushing numbers around. And I wouldn't be surprised if it's announced very soon"

March 13, 2006: SCI FI Wire spoke with Hellboy star Ron Perlman, who revealed the sequel's working title is Hellboy 2: The Golden Army: "I think that that's an invention based on a number of different things that have appeared in other comic books," Perlman said of the title in an interview while promoting the upcoming television miniseries Stephen King's Desperation.""But basically the idea for [Hellboy 2] was something that was hatched by [Hellboy comic-book creator] Mike Mignola, with [Hellboy writer-director] Guillermo del Toro sitting alongside of him. And then Guillermo, of course, did all of the writing. But, you know, the story was Mignola." - Thanks to 'Superherohype' for the news.

December 9, 2005: Director Guillermo del Toro talked to EmpireOnline about the sequel: "It's going really good," says del Toro, who's completed a script. "It's about the fairy world and the mythical creatures all rebelling against humanity and saying it's the end of mankind and it's the season for the sons of the Earth. And basically Hellboy has to try to repress or suppress that rebellion." But – and it’s a big but – Hellboy 2 is still awaiting the big greenlight, before filming can take place (partially in the UK, fact fans). "We're budgeting," said del Toro. "I'm very much looking forward to it. I wanna do it. It's still on the front burner, but it's all about budget." - Thanks to 'Superherohype' for the news!

July 19, 2005: SciFiWire reports: "Mike Mignola, creator of the Hellboy comic franchise, told SCI FI Wire that the upcoming sequel to last year's Hellboy movie will deal with folklore and mythology, a counterbalance to the first film's focus on Nazis and monsters. "Wherein the first film was sort of the H.P. Lovecraft kind of monsters and the Nazis and the mad-scientist stuff, this one is geared much more toward the folklore element of the Hellboy [comics], with the kind of fairies and the Old-World stuff," Mignola said in an interview at Comic-Con International in San Diego. Mignola, who worked with Hellboy director Guillermo del Toro to develop the sequel's story, added: "That really is a big element of the Hellboy stories, and that element was completely not in the first film. So the idea of the second film would be sort of the other half of the Hellboy world." Mignola's comics often reference Russian, Irish and Japanese folklore, among other things. For the film, he said, "I don't know that Russian [mythology will figure in] so much, but certainly that idea of these ancient creatures that have been kind of shoved out of the mainstream and are living underground [will]. It's about that kind of stuff." Also look for the appearance of some characters familiar from the comics, such as the B.P.R.D.'s Johann. But not Roger the Homunculus: "We had tried to work it out, because Guillermo loves that character," Mignola said. "We tried to work out a storyline about Roger, and it just didn't work. So we opted to go the folklore route instead." -Thanks to 'BerzerkerX23' for the heads up!
