November 24, 2004: Ryan Reynolds, who plays Hannibal King in the upcoming 'Blade Trinity', says he's been approached by Marvel to star in a big screen adaption of its Deadpool comic. "Avi Arad called me into his office after we were done shooting [Blade 3] and said 'Ryan I want you to play DeadPool, you've got to do it" he told Bloddy Disgusting. Thanks to 'Lynne' for the heads up! August 7, 2004: According to director David Goyer (Blade: Trinity) on the official Blade message boards, while he was in talks to adapt 'Deadpool' for Marvel Studios, he has decided to move on: "Deadpool movie status? Don't know. I was talking to Marvel about it, but ultimately, decided to move on to other projects." Shame - the Goyer directing Ryan Reynolds starring combo sounded perfect. Thanks to everyone who sent this in. April 7, 2004: When asked about the possibility of a 'Deadpool' movie in issue #151 of Wizard Magazine, Marvel Studios VP Kevin Feige replied, "Deadpool is one of our favorite characters. It'll definitely find its way to the screen in the near future." Thanks to CountinDown.com for the news. March 2, 2004: Forget Mark Millar's denial and those sites that told you the Deadpool news IGN FilmForce first reported was untrue. Sources close to the deal have now confirmed that New Line Cinema is actively considering and talking to Marvel Studios about a Deadpool feature with Ryan Reynolds to star, Marvel to produce, David Goyer to direct and – probably best of all for comics fans – Goyer and Mark Millar writing together. March 2, 2004: From CHUD's interview with 'Blade: Trinity' helmer David Goyer: Q: What about directing Deadpool? David: I want to do something else with Ryan Reynolds because I really loved working with him and New Line wants to do something else with Ryan Reynolds and Marvel wants to do something with Ryan because there aren't a lot of actors anymore that can do credible action and be funny and that are also good actors. Ryan, I think, coming out of this movie and I know it's a lot to say will sort of be like where Mel Gibson was coming off of Lethal Weapon. He can do it all. He never thought he could do action, ever. And he was in here last week with his girlfriend and I showed him some cut-together action stuff and said, 'Can you believe that's you?' And he said, 'No, I cannot!' So, Dead Pool came up as a possibility. We would completely reinvent it. We can't connect it to Weapon X or anything like that. We'll see. |
