November 4, 2006: Talking with the press at the London premiere of "Hollywoodland", actor Ben Affleck confirmed that he's not keen on the idea of a "Daredevil" sequel. "By playing a superhero in Daredevil, I have inoculated myself from ever playing another superhero" Affleck told Slash Film. He added "Wearing a costume was a source of humiliation for me and something I wouldn't want to do again soon". Funny, I'm not really disappointed by that. -Thanks to 'DarkHorizons' for the news! June 22, 2005: Marvel CEO Avi Arad insists that he would love to make a second, darker "Daredevil" movie: "I would make it in a second, as soon as could I get the rights back. We licensed it. If they'll give us the rights back, we'll make the movie." And in other related DD2 news: "Elektra" director Rob Bowman talked with Dreamwatch who says there's still plans to do another "Elektra" or "Daredevil" movie. "I think it's still on the cards, I haven't heard anything about it but I know that was always the plan." -Thanks to 'AYAZ' for the heads up! October 15, 2004: IESB.net tells 'Superherohype' they caught up with Ben Affleck and asked him if he would be interested in a Daredevil sequel. Here's a clip: "Ben would consider going back to Daredevil just as long as Fox would negotiate to tell some of the darker storylines. He would like to see a big screen adaptation of Kevin's graphic novel that included "Mysterio" or maybe even "Born Again". He believes that these story lines might me a bit obscure for 20th Century Fox and may require some negotiations." August 16, 2004: According to ManWithoutFear.com: "A source at Fox Home Entertainment has just informed me of the street date for the Daredevil Director's Cut DVD. Watch for this version of the movie to ship on November 30, 2004, just prior to the release of the Elektra movie, in January." Thanks to 'GBPackers56' for the heads up. And watch for it on The Comic Book Movie Store for pre-orders! March 17, 2004: Yesterday there were reports that Ben Affleck has ruled out any possible return as the lawyer turned superhero, in Daredevil 2. He was quoted as saying he no longer wants to do action movies and focus more on comedies. But, all you Daredevil/Affleck fans don't despair. Mr. Affleck recently sat down with Larry King and sets the record straight: ""Well, 'Daredevil' was a sort of personal thing for me because it was the comic book I loved when I was a kid," Affleck said. "I just felt I would never forgive myself. The 12-year-old me would never forgive myself if I passed up a chance to do it. I'm not sure I would do it again but it was fun." So, he hasn't completely ruled out the role, which is a good thing, right? March 5, 2004: 'Anime' sends us this report, not sure if there's any truth to the report. I guess only time will tell: "Word is going around in London that Writer/Director Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy & Blade 2) is interested in directing Daredevil 2 (AKA) Daredevil: Born Again. Daredevil: Born Again, is the critically acclaimed comic by writer Frank Miller and Artist David Mazzucchelli. This superhero/horror story focuses on the fall from grace of Matt Murdock's secret identity. Like the original story, 90 percent of the film will feature DD without his costume, but rather he will be fighting evil in his civilian cloths. Ben Affleck is reported to be interested in returning as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, as long as project takes a darker and slicker tone. Sources also report that a new villain will be introduced called "Bushwacker": a religious assassin who has it out for Mutants. " Interesting, we'll keep you updated on all the latest Daredevil rumours. December 8, 2003: Ben Affleck spoke to SciFi Wire about reprising his role as Daredevil, a role he isn't really considering: "I don't know about Daredevil II," Affleck said in an interview while promoting his upcoming SF movie Paycheck. "That may be too much work for me. I don't have any idea." Affleck added that he'd consider it if friend, filmmaker and sometime Daredevil comic-book writer Kevin Smith took part. "I suppose that if Kevin Smith wrote it and was going to be involved, I would do it," he said. "But I'm not banging down the door trying to get Daredevil II made. You'll know when my career is really on the slide when I start resurrecting the franchise." Ben went out to say he would do a cameo appearance in an Elektra movie. Thanks to Sci-Fi Wire for the interview. September 17, 2003: According to actor Joe Pantoliano, who played reporter Ben Urich in Daredevil, he may appear in the upcoming sequel, but he doesn't know for sure yet. ""Haven't heard yet, but they've got the option on me. They sort of own on me", said Pantoliano. Thanks to CountingDown. March 27, 2003: Talking with The Minnesota Daily, filmmaker Kevin Smith was asked about the "Daredevil" sequel and revealed Ben Affleck has tried to convince him to write a sequel but he's not sure he wants the job - "I love comic books, but I don't know whether I'd want to work on a superhero movie. There are too many studio executives that have to justify their jobs, so they say things like, 'What if "Daredevil's" not blind? Why does he have to be blind?'". Thanks to DH and Superherohype! February 27, 2003: 20th Century Fox issued a press release today that confirmed that they are moving ahead with both a sequel to Daredevil as well as an Elektra spin-off with actress Jennifer Garner. The bulk of the press release was geared towards Garner's 'Elektra' flick, so if it comes down to which you'll be seeing first, I'd wager it's Elektra's turn to steal the show before we get our second helping of the Man Without Fear. February 20, 2003: Comics Continum talked with Producer Gary Foster who indicates plans for a sequel and an Elektra spin-off will continue thanks to the film's opening weekend box-office success: "We're very happy with things. DD2 moves ahead, as does Elektra. Too early to know what goes first, but we are certainly going to get scripts going". Sadly the film's strongest element isn't locked in as much as we might hope - "All the cast, except Colin (Farrell, who played Bullseye), are signed up for sequel". Febraury 10, 2003: Avi Arad confirmed there's a "Daredevil" sequel waiting to be green-lighted should the first film prove to be a hit. January 31, 2003: Micheal Clarke Duncan was recently asked if he would do a sequel and he had this to say: "I signed a two picture deal with Fox for Daredevil"; in related news actor Joe Pantoliano who plays Ben Urich is also signed for a sequel. |
