News and Rumors:

January 29, 2004: Screenwriter Jonathan Alpers talks about Astro City in the latest issue of Wizard Magazine: "It's funny because actors are fun to think about right now, because you could just do it all day, but I haven't really gotten a good idea yet. We're starting to think about who we want to direct it, and the list is extensive. Kurt's got his favorites. I've got my favorites. They tend to be some of the bigger directors out there. I mean, Kurt's very character oriented. He's kind of looking for somebody that can do the action stuff but do the character stuff as well." Thanks to Superherohype for the news.

December 2, 2003: Ben Barenholtz, Kurt Busiek and Jonathan Alpers, under the newly formed partnership Panama Leo LLC, today announced the acquisition of all cinematic rights to the award-winning comic book series Astro City.

One of the most highly acclaimed comic books in history with over two dozen awards, Astro City is the brainchild of writer Kurt Busiek in collaboration with his creative partners Brent Anderson (interior artist) and Alex Ross (cover artist), the three of whom create and design the heroes and world of ASTRO CITY together. ASTRO CITY tells stories of human drama in a wildly superhuman world. Featuring a widely-varied cast of characters, including superheroes, super-villains, monsters, mad scientists, innocent bystanders and more, ASTRO CITY's focus is on life in a world of the fantastic, where anything from rampaging monsters to alien invasions can happen at any moment. Where other comics tell of superheroes trying to fit into a "regular" world, Astro City asks, "What would it be like to live in a superhero's world?" Debuting in 1995 at Image Comics, Astro City instantly became an award-winning fan favorite and over the years has racked up numerous Best Series, Best Single Issue, Best Writer, and Best Artist awards among others from comic-industry awards like the Eisner, the Harvey and Comic Buyers Guide Fan Awards. ASTRO CITY has been published internationally in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Brazil.
