Samuel L. Jackson Updates ‘Thor’
By Landfill | January 26, 2010
It was almost a year ago there was talk that Marvel was trying to short change their actors. First we heard Terrence Howard was replaced by Don Cheadle for the role of War Machine. And then we heard Sam Jackson might not reprise his role as Nick Fury.
Long story short, Jackson will be back for quite few films in the iconic role of Nick Fury but there was a point in Marvel’s movie production that had us all scared. For some reason that feeling comes to mind once again with today’s news.
It was reported that Thor would be one of the many films Jackson was supposed to play his Marvel character. He was supposed to have some sort of came appearance similar to the one he had in 2008’s Iron Man.
Jackson recently revealed he had no idea he was supposed to be in Thor by saying, “Nobody’s told me anything. I was reading the trades last week and I saw the cast list. My name was in it, so maybe I am doing something that I don’t know about and I’ll hear about it soon.”
I suppose it is possible Jackson could have let it slip his mind that he was going to film something for Marvel some time soon. Or the cameo could be so small it’s of no importance to the actor. Either way, it’s something to think about.
It’s surprising that he hasn’t found out about this before. It’s even more surprising no one has mentioned Nick Fury’s appearance in Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming CBM, especially after all the talk of fitting Stan Lee’s cameo somewhere in Thor.
By the way, Thor has officially started principal photography and is well into making the movie. There have been a few small updates from the cast talking about shooting a few scenes but nothing big so far. I’m just hoping they don’t go too far with production and miss out on connecting Thor with the inevitable Avengers film coming soon.

It seems to me as though he’s simply trying to downplay his cameo. I’m sure it will have some impact on the overall storyline leading to the Avengers, but he might not want to elaborate on it. Besides, if it’s only one scene at the end of the movie, he probably will only have a couple days of shooting scheduled, which isn’t that big to most actors.

I don’t think this is really something to cause alarm over. Jackson was told awhile ago Fury would appear in quite a few Marvel movies (wasn’t 9??) so getting them confused a little isn’t a big deal. Also, I was under the impression that the big picture of it all had the Iron Man, Thor, and Captain movies setting up the Avengers film(s) all along? That could be just me though.

As long as his cameo does not take place on a airplane with snakes, i’m good.

Its also very very possible to connect this film to the eventual Avengers film sans Sammy. Look at Hulk. Having Tony Stark jump in there real quick was all they needed.

I too am not too worried about Mr. Jackson possibly not being see in THOR or even in a Stinger. I admittedly would rather see a Stark Stinger making some wisecrack to Thor about Magic and technology. We’ll see next year…
