Michael Caine Talks About ‘The Dark Knight’ Sequel
By Landfill | November 13, 2009
Michael Caine does this thing where he talks about a possible Dark Knight sequel ever so often. He’s always very vocal about the subject, no matter what it is, he’ll gladly share his ideas with anyone willing to listen. If you recall, he did start a few villainous rumors in the past and even confirmed them at one point. He later went back on his word and we all realized he loves pulling a fast one on us. Today, he’s doing something of the same but it’s not all fun and games with the latest Batman update.
Michael Caine was recently approached for an interview with British magazine, Shortlist, and was asked what he thought about another Batman film. The actor said (via IGN), “As for the future… if they ever make another Batman I will be in, I will be the butler…”
Caine seemed highly doubtful for another Batman sequel by saying, “But I don’t know if they are ever going to make another Batman. If they do it won’t be for quite a while.”
Of course we know this because nothing has changed since The Dark Knight came out over a year ago. It’s strange to see this happening because we’re so used to getting news and updates very quick about another Batman film.
It wasn’t too long ago when Dark Knight was in the early stages of development with the constant flow of rumors and updates for the CBM. It’s a totally different feeling this time around, it feels like we’d be really lucky to get any official news in the next year or two.
If anyone would know something, it would be Michael Caine. He’s constantly collaborating with Christopher Nolan on anything the director does. He spends so much time with the director, it would be surprising if they never talked any Batman.
We recently brought an interview with Cillian Murphy, who played Scarecrow in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. He said when he’s working with Nolan or just chatting it up, they never speak about Batman. It has to be on the tip of the tongue and must be very difficult for these actors not to bring it up. Maybe they know Nolan doesn’t want to deal with another Batman film right now so they keep quiet for the director’s sake.
I guess we’ll get a Dark Knight sequel whenever the time is right and it’s possible the time won’t be right for a very long time. Maybe it’s a good thing they’re not cranking out Batman films every other year, we’d probably be sick of Christian Bale’s voice for one thing. Anyway, be sure to keep checking back for more Dark Knight sequel updates.
