‘Hack/Slash’ Has a New Writer

By Landfill | November 16, 2009

If you recall, back in July we told you Hack/Slash received a new director in Fredrik Bond. with that post, we also told you Justin Marks was writing the script with a possible winter start.

More recently we brought an interview with the producers saying Hack/Slash would be announcing some casting soon. We’re still waiting on that bit of news but we also wanted to hear of a possible start date. I assume with today’s news, we’re a bit of a ways away from seeing Hack/Slash move forward.

According to Bloody-Disgusting, Stephen Susco has been hired to write the updated treatment for the upcoming CBM. Susco is known for his scripts for The Grudge and The Grudge 2. Susco is also writing the script for the upcoming Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D. The screenwriter has some background that should mesh well with Hack/Slash.

Cassie Hack’s story is described by the source as, “A woman who symbolizes the lone girl who survives at the end of every horror movie. Hack not only survived, she has become a killer of killers and travels to small towns across the country hunting slashers in the vein of Halloween’s Michael Myers, Friday the 13th’s Jason Voorhees and A Nightmare on Elm Street’s Freddy Krueger. She is partnered on her journey with Vlad, a hulking companion who serves as her protector.

the only reason why this news is comforting is because Susco might be able to put a spin on the current draft in order to make it feel more like a horror movie. From the description, the movie should have quite a few scenes of suspense, something the Grudge films are known for. It is yet another delay for Cassie Hack’s big screen debut but it’s a necessary stop to try to get the film as perfect as possible.
