David Goyer Updates ‘X-Men Origins: Magneto’
By Landfill | November 11, 2009
You guys remember back in October X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner updated Magneto with some terrible news? If not, it’s ok, all she said was Magneto wasn’t a top priority at the moment. She speculated Magneto’s origins might be told in five years or so. Sadly today, David Goyer agree with the X-Producer.
MTV recently talked to David Goyer about the possibility of the spin off Magneto film ever seeing the light of day. He said, “I tend to agree with [Donner]. [Fox is] still trying to figure out what they want to do, whether or not they’ll do a different ‘X-Men’ movie next or another ‘Wolverine’ movie next. If they want to make ‘Magneto,’ that’s awesome. In the meantime, I’m just going to move on with my other projects.”
If you didn’t know already, Goyer isn’t necessarily out of work. We’ve actually discussed his work load time and time again. You can see his latest work right now on ABC, its’ called FlashForward. It’s a good show and ABC has ordered a full season so expect David Goyer to stick with that for awhile.
“Even taking ‘FlashForward’ aside, I’m booked up for another year and a half,” he said. “I have no complaints.”
It’s a very sad day today to see such a promising origins story not get the film treatment it deserves. Magneto is one of those characters that deserves something more, especially how he ended in X3. It would have been a great thing to see in a few years but it seems as though Fox will not make the movie.
What do you think of Goyer’s update? Were you looking forward to Magneto’s origins? Tell us what you think in the comments.
