A Few ‘Conan’ Updates

By Landfill | November 12, 2009

Dolph LundgrenA few weeks ago we gave you tons of Conan casting calls. In that article, we told you every role would be open to anyone, especially the role of Conan. Below is the actual casting call for Conan.

He’s in his 20s to early 30s, Caucasian, powerfully built, broad-shouldered, sun browned skin lined with scars. Piercing blue eyes and square-cut black mane, tall. He is a savage killer that has matured into the refinement his father tried to teach him when he was young. Conan is very smart, almost inhumanly strong, and very cunning. His entire life, from the moment of his birth, has been shaped by violence. Being the last of his tribe and having to watch his father die a cruel death, he is determined avenge his peoples’ slaughter by killing all those who led the attack on the Cimmerians, including the all-powerful Khalar Singh. He is prepared to die in order to accomplish his goal. What Conan did not expect, was to find a reason to live… LEAD

Today Dolph Lundgren expresses his interest for a role in the upcoming CBM. Oh and if you’re wondering why there’s a 300 image up top, keep on with this article to find out.

Recently Lundgren told MTV he would like to have a part in Conan saying he’s met with the producers. According to the source, Conan shares a team of producers with Lundgren’s latest film, The Expendables, starring Sylvester Stallone.

The actor was quiet about what role he wanted by saying, “It’s too early.” He also said we would probably hear something of his interest in Conan next year.

And now on to the 300 news. Shaun Smith and Scott Wheeler, the guys who are responsible for the visual effects in 300, are re-teaming for another CBM, Conan. According to Mania, “Smith is acting as creature designer on ‘Conan‘, while Wheeler is heading up the makeup department. The pair are currently working up the creature schemes for the pic with director Marcus Nispel.”

“As you might expect I really can’t say much except it looks really cool and we are excited to be a part of it,” said Shaun Smith of the effects.

Conan starts principle photography early next year, February 15, to be exact. You can expect more updates to come as we inch closer to the shooting schedule.

What do you think of Dolph Lundgren’s involvement with Conan? Do you think the 300 guys are a good fit for the upcoming CBM? Tell us what you think in the comments.

    1. Dolph Lundgren could possibly be an acceptable villain or maybe even a supporting character, but I don’t want to see him as Conan. I know this idea has been crapped on in the past, but I really really think HHH of WWE fame would make a good Conan. There, I said it. I’ve even seen photos where they were marketing him in Conan-esque style.
    2. I think that Conan the comic had a very unique tone and look to it, and a very creative visualization of that artwork would be very promising, in my opinion.
    3. Could everyone reading assist me in settling a bet? The above picture of the beast character in 300, isn’t that also a wrestler by the name of the Great Khali? He was in The Longest Yard and Get Smart, but I can’t find him as being listed for being on 300. But I really think it’s him.
