Willem Dafoe Talks ‘Spider-man 4′

By Landfill | November 3, 2009

willem dafoe 1Willem Dafoe’s been in the news lately. Last week we told you he wasn’t exactly contacted to play the Joker in Tim Burton’s vision of the Dark Knight but was actually approached to play Batman instead. Of course we all know Michael Keaton won that battle but today Dafoe talks a bit about his other comic book character, Green Goblin.

Even though Norman Osborn died in the first Spider-man film, he’s been a recurring character trying to get his son, Harry, played by James Franco, to join in on the fight against Peter Parker. With both Goblins dead now one can only wonder if Willem Dafoe can somehow show up in the next installment.

“Let’s put it this way — no one’s called,” the actor told MTV News in a recent interview.

Of course no one has called him yet because the script isn’t quite finished just yet. They’re supposed to start filming next year but if there’s no script, there’s nothing to shoot.

There is no definite villain yet but it could work with Dafoe coming back as Norman Osborn. He was resurrected in the comics and it’s obvious Sam Raimi loves to work with the actor. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him.

“I think it’s possible,”Dafoe said. “But I haven’t heard anything.”

But then again, there’s no reason to bring back any Goblin because their story has been told, it took three movies. I say start the next few films with newer villains, something new and fresh is exactly what Spider-man needs after part 3.

What do you think of Dafoe’s possible return to the Spider-man franchise? Share your thoughts and ideas with us in the comments.

    Can anyboby say Hob-Goblin this would be a great way to introduce him back in the script or even better he could play Red Skull in the upcoming Captain America Movie. He would be a perfect fit.

    NEW, that is what the franchise need so absolutely no Green Goblin or any Goblin for that matter. New villains and Mysterio and Lizard are perfect example of great villains, popular and interesting in what they do, also Spider-man have one of the most amazing rogue galleries in all comic books so just use it but use it well.

    Also, talking about NEW, I know Sony have done a nice job, for some great and for others decent, but now that I can see what MARVEL is capable of, in the film industry, then I wanna see the franchise in hand of MARVEL and see their take of their principal character. But is a dream, because Sony is rumored to have in production at least 3 more films about Spider-man (4, 5 and 6) so they have a firm grasp of the rights for at least 10 years give or take.

    Yes, indeed. After the death of Harry and the arrival of the Hobgoblin, Osborn send Kraven The Hunter to mess with Peter. Osborn has been the leader of the Cult Of The Scriers in Europe. He’s preparing his return to the U.S. (Spider-Man 5) and the assembling of his Sinister Six: The resurrected Doctor Octopus, a challenging Kraven the Hunter, a blackmailed Sandman, a power seeking Hobgoblin, Venom looking for revenge and a new baddie Vulture. After ‘The Avengers’, this could be great, if well done. At the end of Spider-Man 5, Osborn set up his last step of revenge… a clone of Peter Parker!! In Spider-Man 6 Osborn returns as the original Green Goblin to kill Spider-Man while Peter must cure Conners, who changes in the Lizard and the clone becomes Kaine. The end of the second trilogy. And is Peter changing in something unhuman? Is he clone or worse… a Man-Spider? He will need Mary Jane not losing his mind!

    @john@themovies:
    That is WAY TOO much for the average movie goer. There’s too much story that’s too unbelievable for a non-comic fan to swallow. I do like the idea of a Sinister 6 forming for the last film, but I don’t think that grouping will work properly.

    @bedlamFLASH:

    Maybe you’re right, maybe not. Each movie is a story that stands on his own. There’s just a red line through the movies. Remember Star Wars? When “Star Wars: A New Hope” came on screen, nobody has foreseen it would be such a hype and was ment to become a cult. But it did. And has it end yet? No, the Clone Wars are still on TV.
    The movie industry will make money and plots between comics is what makes marvel Mine!! So why not in the Marvel movies? Let’s enjoy the 3 Spidey movies that are coming our way.
    But you’re right. The average movie goer has to be public. But after ‘Nightmare on Elmstreet’, ‘Hellraiser’, ‘Friday the 13th’ number what so ever… who cares anymore? If the producers, directors and writers put something extra to the movie, maybe just maybe, the average movie goer will be intriged.
