UPDATE: Jackie Earle Haley to Play Sinestro?

By Landfill | October 18, 2009

jackie-earle-haleyEarly yesterday we brought the rumor that Jackie Earle Haley was up for the role of Sinestro in the upcoming CBM Green Lantern. Steve Weintraub had the chance to exchange a few words confirming or denying exactly what the official word is concerning the comic book film. Continue with the article to see what Haley had to say.

Haley told Collider the first he heard of it was last night at the taping of the 2009 Scream Awards. Haley said he was shocked to hear he was the main villain in the comic book film.

He wanted to make sure that he wasn’t confirming the casting and he heard it the same way we all did.

The actor also wanted to add that he has not screen tested for the villainous role.

When asked if it is still a possibility, he said, “you guys are out in front of it and I don’t know anything about it yet. If something comes up I’ll let you know.”

Keep checking back here for the next Green Lantern update.

If Haley isn’t cast as Sinestro, who would you want to play the villain in Green Lantern? Tell us what you think in the comments.

Not sure if DC Entertainment would want the same actor playing two different villains. He’s already the main villain in Jonah Hex. nice choice though.

I hope he can because it’s another step towards more CBMs, especially those which take place in space. From what they want to do with Green Lantern, it sounds like they want to have some kind of intergalactic battle/story. It will be the first that doesn’t necessarily take place on Earth.

Yeah sure you could bring up Fantastic Four but from what I hear, GL will be a more serious take on the character. It’s something DC hopes to establish with all their characters after Dark Knight’s success.

Everyone is entitled of their own opinion and mine is that Green Lantern is in third place, only behind Superman and Batman (not necessarily in that order), in the list of DC’s characters who should enjoy major exposure in any way possible, comicbooks, CBMs and even videogames.

Green Lantern is a great franchise for DC and for the comicbook world in general and it is amongst the few original (more or less) concept in any company because you can find your version of Superman in every corner with a few changes here and there.

Also, Hal Jordan is really cool an amazing character and is surrounded with great supporting cast. And other GL like Kyle Rayner, John Stewart and Guy Gardner are very cool too.

They all have, specially Jordan, plenty of great stories to tell.
