Sam Raimi Updates Other ‘Spider-man’ Films

By FavaBeans | October 14, 2009

RaimiSam Raimi talked with MTV recently and they’re just now publishing that interview piece by piece. Earlier we brought the news that Raimi was wanting to start filming next March. More recently we brought an update about the next villain to square off against Peter Parker. Today we’re bringing news concerning the next Spider-man films.

MTV asked the director if he wants to come back to the franchise after the fourth film. “Every time I make one of the ‘Spider-Man’ movies, I have to ask myself, is the character still intriguing to me?” Raimi said. “Do I love the character? Am I dying to tell the next story of Peter Parker and Spider-Man?”

“And so far the answer has been yes,” he said.

“If ever I feel sated, like I’ve got no more to say or I’m not really super-excited about it,” Raimi continued, “because I know I’ll also love it, but I’ve got to be super-excited about it. If I can’t reach that level of commitment and excitement, I think then there’d be somebody else better to do justice to the story.”

“You have to ask me in two-and-half years,” he laughed.

I’m not really sure if Raimi is signed on for more than the next film but if it turns out to save the franchise, I’d definitely want him around for the other two. I like the first film and loved the second. The third had high points, I mean all CBMs do, but it just wasn’t the best it could have been.

If Raimi decides to produce instead of direct, who would you want as the next director in the film franchise? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.

I personally always thought Michael Bay would be a good choice but im sure there are others that could do a good job as well.

The first Spider-man was great, the second one was rather on par (with the exception of some predictability and the fact that car-throwing superhuman punches “Doc Oc” in the face and the very mortal human still had a face left) Spider-man 3 was a train wreck plotwise and should prolly be ignored and treated like it never existed. (There’s a great “How it should have ended” youtube video about it actually hehe)

I’d love if the 4th film was on par with the first two, but as usual, I refuse to get my hopes up.

First Spider-Man was great…. except for the lame Goblin helmet and costume. Willem Dafoe would have looked terrifying in the Goblin’s MASK so you could see facial expressions. That and no web-shooters….yeesh. The second was good, 3rd was forgettable but Sandman was done well. Why does Spidey have his mask off for about 50% of each movie? Yer killin’ me Smalls!!!!!

They should have the Kingpin in one of the next films. James Galdelfini would be great for the part! If they do pash the torch i hope we don’t end up with a ” shumocherish ” type!

It would be nice to have Kingpin in the film but wouldn’t his involvement bring more to Spider-mans story? that’s good and all but I don’t think it would work well in the 5th or 6th films.

If anyone, they should bring back Michael Clark Duncan, he was great in Daredevil.

Oh, and I think Fox owns the rights to Kingpin so Sony would have to work something out with them in order to use the character. I’m not saying it’s impossible, I’m just saying there’s extra work to be done for a character that’s not that important right now.
