‘RED’ to Begin Principle Photography Soon

By Landfill | October 23, 2009

redBack in August we told you about the upcoming CBM RED based on Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner’s Wildstorm comics series. We also said Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman were attached to star. Today we bring a little more news concerning principle photography along with shooting locations.

Mania has the exclusive and they say RED will start shooting in January. A few locations will be in Toronto and will finish up in Louisiana.

Since the source material is very short, the writers will make up for this by expanding on the role Bruce Willis will be playing. Also, the source material will be a starting point for the film.

Willis will play an aging black-ops agent who’s retirement is interrupted by a high tech assassin. No news yet as to who Morgan Freeman will be playing. Mania also states that RED has about 4 spots left to cast and is in talks for 2 of those 4.

The three-issue comic series, published in 2003, told the story of a former black-ops CIA agent now living a quiet life in retirement until the day a high-tech assassin shows up intent on killing him. With his secret identity compromised and his love interest in danger, the man must reassemble his old team to figure out who is out to get them. The book was written by Warren Ellis and illustrated by Cully Hamner.

Robert Schwentke is set to direct the comic book adaptation.
