Rebecca Romijn Would Like a Spin-Off
By Landfill | October 12, 2009
With all the talk of spin offs and reboots going around Fox lately, it’s a wonder we haven’t heard anything about Rebecca Romijn’s character in the X-men films. Wolverine’s getting another solo film, Deapool has his spin off in the works, Magneto’s trying to make some moves, First Class is possibly about to start. But what about Mystique?
Romijn was quoted recently saying she would definitely like to reprise her role especially in a spin off film. “If they talk to me in a year when I have worked off more of the baby weight, we’ll see, but I’ve still got a couple of pounds to go,” she says. “It’s a great idea but no one’s talked to me about it yet.”
Interesting news since most actors hate the make up process, it’s even led to Nightcrawler not appearing in X3, but she seems to like the character enough to reprise the role.
I think Mystique is one of those Marvel characters that has tons of back story to explore. Because of her shape shifting powers, her age is impossible to determine and I would really enjoy a scene where she meets Magneto or at least have her in a scene in the upcoming Magneto spin off.
I realize this is at the wishful thinking stage but it could work, Fox definitely needs to jump at this opportunity.
What do you guys think? Would you watch a Mystique film? Tell us what you think in the comments.

I think this is another case of a stand-out supporting character getting a little too big for the role. I mean, Mystique is an amazing character, on the big screen or in the comics. BUT, I don’t know if she necessarily carries enough weight to carry a movie. I mean, I think it would definitely be something worth exploring because there are a number of options to play with, but it’s not anything I’m really hopeful for or anything.

I completely agree. Mystique is, and most likely always will be a supporting character. I think her backstory would be interesting, but not enough for a whole movie. Her character is great though. I would like to see her in a supporting Apocolypse role, or playing a role in the Magneto movie. But only really if Magneto is about the start of the true brotherhood (not like in X3). And I guess apocolypse would only be good for X4 . . . but as a continuation X3 really screwed that up!

I love how no one has faith in the X-men franchise after X3. I know things are uncertain but there’s always an explaination behind it.
Professor X is still alive according to the scene the credits of X3. Cyclops can still be alive if you bring in Mr. Sinister.
If you’re worried about Jean Grey, she doesn’t necessarily have to be back for the fourth film but maybe flashbacks. She could come back this time able to suppress the Phoenix force.
The ideas are endless and the franchise doesn’t have to end with X3. that’s all I’m saying.

I think it’s the degree to which you would have to stretch everything to accept an enjoyable continuation from X3. I don’t think it’s impossible to do something there – in fact, I’m really interested to see what comes out of First Class – I’m just saying that X3 was a hard pill to swallow and I’m not sure it’s something worth elaborating on.

I agree that all of those things could happen . . . but look at how many things they have to “correct” or “discredit” bc of what X3 did to the story line. I do like the cyclops/sinister idea, but then there is the whole mutant cure thing, which the end of the film hints that it isn’t permanent, but I feel like that is a HUGE plot line of a movie that they are just able to say “oh wait, that didn’t really work.” It feels a little like the end of some of sitcom where everything was a dream. Its not that I don’t have faith in the Xmen franchise, I just feel like they have so many things topsy-turvy, that I’m not exactly anticipating a fourth film that is a continuation, bc I feel like they will continue to butcher a lot of things that not only aren’t in the comics, but completely go against the comics.

It’s true they would have to stretch everything but the currently X-men film franchise can be saved. So what they had one bad movie, they can rebound and make something on the same level as X2. I mean what ever happened to second chances right?
First Class, I’m not sure how they’re going to do it but if they go with the young mutants from Wolverine, I wouldn’t mind seeing that. I think it would have Cyclops, Emma Frost, Quicksilver, a version of Iceman, and if they threw in a young beast, that would be great. That’s if First Class is a spin off and not a reboot.

I love the character of Mystique, for me is amongst the best character inside the X-men universe and for that I hated the look of her in the X-men films, that look from the X-men Evolution animation series is not bad but I don’t like it, her normal attire is so cool that in all the years she have been around they practically haven’t change it because is awesome.
Mystique is so good but she is a supportive character, that is where she shines, along side Magneto or with Rogue or in a team with The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants or any temporal alliance she forms.
Rebecca Romijn is awesome, she is so beautiful and talented, she did and outstanding job and I want to see more of her as Mystique but as a supportive character, in the so rumored Magneto spin-off or even in Wolverine 2, they have a past together so it could be could to see her there, but the Japan story practically kill that possibility but nevertheless, there are still many opportunities for her character to show up in any X-men related film.
Also, seeing that pic of her with a short hair, so beautiful and glowing make me think of something. For so long I have tried to come up with the right cast for a Fantastic Four film, I was against the film cast and everything about the movies since day one. For me that cast is one of the most difficult to find because the Fantastic Four are a pretty unique team inside the world of comic books, but to get to my point, I see Rebecca Romijn as a possible Susan Storm a.k.a Invisible Woman, she may be ‘too hot’ for the role but I guess she could pretty well fit in nicely.
