Latest Updates for ‘Hard Boiled’ and ‘Sin City 2′
By Landfill | October 29, 2009
Today’s news covers two Frank Miller creations. Hard Boiled, which we’ve never covered before, follows Carl Seltz, an insurance investigator who turns out to be a murdering cyborg. The other is another update for the eventual (hopefully) Sin City sequel.
Mania talked exclusively with Stephen L’Heureux of Solipsist Film who is producing quite a few comic book related projects making their way to film. Two of those properties are Hard Boiled, and Sin City 2.
A Hard Boiled film adaptation has been talked about for a while now. First we heard David Fincher was attached with Nicolas Cage to star and produce. The Latest news had Frank Miller directing. Mania reports Miller is indeed attached to direct and is hard at work on the screenplay.
L’Heureux went on to add Hard Boiled is in the earliest stages of development. “We’re still developing it. We got the project in turnaround from Warner Bros. and Frank. It’s such a pleasure to work with someone like Frank Miller. He’s so smart and passionate about story at all levels from 1940s noir pulp to modern film.”
L’Heureux said to not expect a live action Hard Boiled film anytime soon because of Sin City 2 supposedly starting production in the second half of 2010.
“With ‘Sin City‘ just on the horizon I don’t think we’d be able to do it with Frank right away. As simple as ‘Sin City‘ seems, it’s a very complex scheduling with all these actors and it’s a very demanding shoot to be on a sound stage all day long,” L’Heureux said. “We have to space it for Frank. There’s also talk, of course, of ‘Sin City 3‘.”
Interesting bit of info, most of the scenes shot for Sin City only involved one actor at a time. A good example is when Marv, played by Mickey Rourke, is fighting Kevin, played by Elijah Wood, in the woods at The Farm. Each actor filmed their scenes separately in order to complete the shot. Actor scheduling shouldn’t be a problem for Sin City 2 if they did the same thing.
Anyway, Hard Boiled sounds like a good idea right now but I’m not so sure Miller’s the guy to be directing. I realize it’s his creation but do we really need to see Frank do his thing like he did with The Spirit?
I could be wrong, The Spirit wasn’t his creation and he might treat Hard Boiled a bit different. He actually might have learned something from The Spirit, things not to do in order to have a successful CBM.
As for the Sin City sequel, I say it all the time because it’s true, we’re not going to see Sin City 2 for awhile. It’s been talked about for the last half of this decade with no movement.
Yeah there’s been talk, tons of talk, but no movement. There’s been some casting and a few cast members talk about the project but everyone’s busy at the moment. By everyone I mean Robert Rodriguez and now Frank Miller with Hard Boiled and a 300 sequel.
