Is DC Entertainment Preparing for ‘Justice League’?
By Landfill | October 20, 2009
The newly created DC Entertainament said they had collected all their characters who were in development and halted production on everything. Everything was halted except for a few characters like Jonah Hex, Green Lantern, and The Losers.
When DCE was created, they said they wanted to regroup and rethink their strategy in order to bring to quality productions of their characters. We all originally thought it would take forever for a new project to be greenlit. I think we might have been wrong.
In the last post we said Green Lantern was scouting New Orleans for a possible filming location. In the same source that provided us with the news, they also had a bit of news concerning a trio of Justice League members.
This from The Times – Picayune:
“Green Lantern” is expected to be the first in a trilogy of films focusing on D.C.’s Justice League heroes – the others being “The Flash” and “Wonder Woman” – before uniting all three with fellow League members Batman, Superman and Aquaman for a Justice League movie.
I’m not sure if this is real or if they paper’s just making news. Either way, it’s very interesting news indeed. It would be amazing if they started to crossover characters, something Marvel accomplished with Incredible Hulk and Iron Man last year.
We’ve already heard Superman has a cameo in the script of Green Lantern but we don’t know if it will make the final cut. It would be great to see it happen but I don’t think DCE knows exactly what they want to do with The Man of Steel. They don’t even have an actor to play the part yet.
Sure they could use Brandon Routh for the cameo in Green Lantern but that would tie Superman Returns with the current films they’re trying to produce. DCE has already said they think Bryan Singer’s Superman is a bookend deal for the Richard Donner series of the 70’s and 80’s. And we already know they’re not asking Singer back for another Superman movie.
Also, Christopher Nolan is like a God to DC Entertainment. He’s said in the past that his take on Batman comes from a world without heroes. In other words, he doesn’t want to see Christian Bale teaming up with any super powered being. I think DCE will keep their promise to Nolan and make sure his take doesn’t have a part in a Justice League film.
So, Superman and Batman are out of the picture but that doesn’t stop DCE from rebooting both characters later on down the line to mesh with the Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and Flash. DCE could also have a stand alone film, or Justice League with their own characters created specifically for that film continuity.
I really like what DC Entertainment is doing but right now, it seems as though their plate is full if they try to go ahead with Justice League. I’m not saying it couldn’t work but it’s alot of trouble to get into with the newly created company.

To me, there’s a high level of irony. The Avengers were originally created as a way of combating the success of the Justice League in the early days of comics. Now, you have a Justice League film being pushed to combat the success of Marvel movies leading up to an Avengers film. I think that there would need to be a lot of thought and writing and a hell of a lot of good casting to pull something off like this. Plus, having two versions of Batman on the big screen in the same time period seems a little odd. I’m not saying it couldn’t work, I’m just saying there’s a lot that would potentially work against it.

I’m glad to hear about the news or rumor, we don’t really know so far. But if DCE is heading there then that is the right direction and they should work harder to make it happen soon but providing a great product at the end of course. Meanwhile, MARVEL is paving the way for them.
I agree that the take of Nolan on Batman, don’t really fit in the Justice League we more or less know or better said, the one that DC is portraying lately in the comicbooks and all their cartoon material.
But, leaving Batman and Superman out, that will be a big mistake. The general public identify the Justice League and DC for that matter trough their three big icons, Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. Also, having a different take on Batman and Superman just for the Justice League film could be dangerous too, at least that is the way I see it because Nolan’s Batman is really loved by all and maybe a different take and possible a watered down one, could be harmful.
So DCE have many many problems to solve before they start doing some good, for that reason is good that they are taking the time necessary but don’t take too long I guess in these case the phrase ‘better late that never’ don’t apply well, with time people will lose interest so capitalize when the tide is high.

It’s strange when you think about it, DC has spot on animated while there live action (not counting Batman of late) are sub par while Marvel has some dead on live action (particularly the Marvel produced) while there animated leaves a lot of room for improvement.
If DC got there live action on the same level as there animated they would be truely a power to contend with.
Superman=Brandon Routh
Wonder Woman=Charisma Carpenter
Green Lantern= Ryan Reynolds
Flash= Neil Patrick Harris
Batman= Chris Pine
But that’s just me
