Gary Ross Not Doing ‘Venom’ Right Now
By Landfill | October 12, 2009
We recently told you Gary Ross would be writing the script for the upcoming Spider-man 3 spin-off Venom. Gary Ross is attached not only to write but to direct as well. Before he tackles Eddie Brock, he’s got something else in mind first.
According to The Playlist, a source very close to Ross states that Venom will still happen but will have to wait until the director is finished with Matt Helm, a secret super spy movie with Bradley Cooper attached to star.
I’m thinking this could be good news for Venom because we don’t want the project entering production too soon, especially if the script isn’t good enough for the screen, something that has plagued a few CBMs recently.
With the latest news recently involving Venom, I had assumed Venom wasn’t going to go into production until after Spider-man 4, something Ross has to retouch before production starts next March.
If everything goes according to plan, Ross will finish Spider-man 4, head on over to do Matt Helm, finish that project up and head right into the Venom spin-off.
It’s either going to happen that way or we could get another writer/director for Venom. Either way, we’re not going to see the film anytime soon.
Thanks to /Film for the heads up.
Who would you want directing Venom if Gary Ross can’t make it? Again, who would you want cast as Eddie Brock in the upcoming CBM? Tell us what you think in the comments.

Kevin Durand would make a good Eddie Brock, he’s the guy you’re talking about by the way.
