Favreau Updates ‘Iron Man 2′

By Landfill | October 16, 2009

jon-favreau-iron-man2With Iron Man 2 inching closer to it’s release date, naturally, we’re going to get more updates about the upcoming CBM. This last week we brought a few quotes from the director Jon Favreau about his cast and The Avengers. Today we’re bringing a few more quotes but this time, it’s about the editing process and CGI completion phase.

While the director was in Bora Bora promoting his new movie Couples Retreat, MTV had the chance to ask how editing the upcoming CBM was going.

“It’s a tricky phase,” Favreau admitted of the sequel. “Unfortunately, it’s not like a traditional film where you try to get your cut together and then you try to figure out what’s working or not. In the case of a superhero movie, an action movie heavy with CGI, you’re turning over sequences and getting shots back. So as we begin to see what the vendors are bringing us, the movie starts to come together.”

At this point in production, CGI team is working on finishing work on how the latest additions are going to look and move.

“When we see what War Machine looks like, Iron Man, the way Whiplash moves, the way the action sequences are coming together — so that’s one thing we’re working on now is we’re continuing to create and generate dailies and digital shots for our animated portion, which is in essence the action sequences.”

While principle photography has wrapped, the secondary production team are still currently shooting a few shots. “We’re also building CG environments where we’re shooting smaller sets with green-screen backgrounds. We’re starting to see what that all looks like,” Favreau said. “But fortunately I have the performances. Those are all in camera because those are the actors and I just have a great, great cast.”

Favreau said the now famous Tony Stark wit will be in the movie, possibly taken a little further with an edgy attitude. “There’s that great tone and sense of humor from the first one, and I think we upped the ante a bit in this one,” he said.

Iron Man 2 stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Mickey Rourke, Don Cheadle, and Sam Rockwell. The film has a scheduled release date for May 7, 2010.
