How ‘Iron Man’ and ‘Thor’ Can Co-Exist According to Brian Bendis

By Landfill | October 29, 2009

Brian Michael BendisWith Marvel planning on bringing a few characters together for the upcoming CBM The Avengers, one can only imagine how they’re going to do it. Thor, for instance, comes from a magical land while Tony Stark is set in the real world. It can drive a fan crazy wondering how they’re going to mesh those character together and still have a great film with a plausible explanation. Today we bring a few quotes from Brian Michael Bendis about that certain subject. While visiting MTV recently Bendis was asked what he thought about the massive crossover Marvel intends to have with the Avengers.

“My advice is, has been, and will be, that much like the comics, you look at movies like the ‘Oceans’ movies that have all these different flavors, you put the flavors together and you cook ‘em,” Bendis explained. “It absolutely can be done.”

Bendis gives The Great Escape as an explanation of how Marvel can achieve this magnificent team up. “Look at ‘The Great Escape’ or other movies that have all these big elements to them, and even elements that don’t seem that they would fit can rub up against each other in a very excellent way,” he explained. “They really can create something you wouldn’t even imagine you had before.”

Bendis would know a thing or two about crossing over characters with his latest project consisting of Spider-man and Luke Cage.

“It’s funny, here are these two characters that have been in the same universe for 40 years, and all of a sudden they’re Abbott and Costello,” he laughed.

Since Bendis has read the script for Captain America, Iron Man 2, and Thor, he wants to get it through to the fans of the characters that they have nothing to worry about.” [The Avengers] is absolutely going to be something better than— different than—anything we’ve seen before.”

While I don’t know exactly how they’re going to pull it off, it’s going to be an epic film  whenever Marvel gets around to making it. After Incredible Hulk and Iron Man last year, it’s obvious they know how to give their characters a star treatment and wouldn’t dare try to mess up The Avengers.
