DC Movie Slate

A week ago we gave you a list of Marvel’s upcoming CBMs along with a few recently rumored. To make sure you guys don’t think we’re biased to one comic book brand rather than the other, we’re bringing a list of DC Entertainment’s upcoming CBMs. Continue with the article to view the list.
- The Losers: technically part of Vertigo Imprint. But anyway, it is about a group of special forces agents who are double crossed and left for dead. The movie stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Zoe Saldana, Chris Evans, and Jason Patric. Release Date: April 9, 2010.
- Jonah Hex: Is a western that follows Hex (Josh Brolin) through the old west while he collects bounties for criminals, one being Quentin Turnbull played by John Malkovich. Release Date: June 18, 2010.
- Green Lantern: Ryan Reynolds stars as Hal Jordan. 1/3 of the movie will take place on Oa, the planet that serves as the headquarters of the Green Lanterns. Sinestro, Carol Ferris, Abin Sur, Kilowag, and Hector Hammond will appear. Release Date: June 17, 2011.
And now we take a break it discuss the other rumored CBMs based on DC Entertainment characters.
- Batman 3: The next installment to Christopher Nolan’s trilogy following Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Nothing is known yet but it’s still possible it will happen, just waiting on Nolan to come around.
- Lobo: Only movement with this is the signing of director Guy Ritchie.
- Deadman: Producer Guillermo Del Toro has recently signed Nikolaj Arcel to direct the film.
- Green Arrow/SuperMax: Status is in development with a script turned in a few years ago. It was reported the script will be re-written by an unnamed writer at the moment.
- Shazam: another project in development with a few writers hired recently
- Superman: Man of Steel: Still no movement for this after it was obvious Bryan Singer wasn’t the guy for a Superman Returns sequel. DCE recently said there are no plans for another Superman film.
- Wonder Woman: with not being able to market the character, WB/DC has halted development.
- Flash: A possibility after Green Lantern.
- Justice League: Mortal: After the project almost made it to principle photography, it was scrapped in favor of developing the characters first.
Just like to point out that most of the characters in the Justice League film are going to get their own films first, starting with Green Lantern. I’d like to say it started with Nolan’s Batman but the director has said his Batman doesn’t fit with the Justice League. Batman doesn’t fit in a world full of superheroes.
I assume after Green Lantern does well, we can see more production on other founding members of Justice League and by the time they are all introduced, we’ll probably be looking at a new Batman on down the road. It’s possible to have a Justice League without Batman, maybe bring him in later on in a sequel.
We can only hope that the recent formation of DC Entertainment will give us more CBMs based on DC characters. I’m thinking early next year we should hear more about the rumored characters and possibly get them active again. I’d just like to say that we’ll eventually get all those films out there but we have to be patient.
Which films are you wanting to see the most out of the whole DC Lineup? Tells us what you think in the comments.
