Latest ‘Superman’ News

By Landfill | September 15, 2009

SupermanWe recently gave a few updates on Superman and his legal battle. We recently talked about the possibility of Kal-El residing with Marvel in 2013. Now with the newest creation of DC Entertainment comes the latest news for The Man of Tomorrow.

WB/DC lost some rights to Superman recently including his origins. He then lost more rights and now DCE has to have a film in production by 2012 or the families of the original creators can bring legal action to get the rights back. From that last bit of news you’d think DCE would be fast tracking a Superman movie in order to delay the inevitable, which is losing their top character.

Today MTV published an interview with DCE Head Diane Nelson. Nelson gave a few quotes but the one that stuck out was the news that WB/DC have no plans for a Superman movie.

“We actually don’t have any current plans for Superman,” said Nelson when asked if the new environment (and the recent legal decision regarding the character) made a “Superman” movie more or less likely in the near future.

Nelson reiterated, “We’ve obviously done a lot of great things behind the property in our history, and it’s a key part of the family, but we don’t have current plans behind Superman.”

Since this is all we have to go by, there’s not much else to report. We do know that it’s obvious now that they want nothing to do with Bryan Singer and the supposed reboot is off the table as well.

It seems to me that Superman would be top priority no matter what legal action was brewing. I would see to it that there would be a project in production by this time next year if anything. I don’t understand why they’re waiting around losing more time with Superman.

I guess if you look on the bright side, it’s a good thing they aren’t rushing into another movie and possibly sacrificing the quality of the film. We’ve seen numerous CBMs rushed into production that ultimately end in failure because the script needed a bit of tuning.

We can only hope that the families that are about to receive one of the biggest characters in comic book history decide to keep him where he is in order to keep that legendary status alive.
