Edward Norton Talks ‘Avengers’

By Landfill | September 23, 2009

Norton AvengersA few days ago Edward Norton gave an update on his rumored appearance in Iron Man 2. Today he gives us an update about The Avengers which comes out in 2013. In a nutshell, it’s what all the recent Marvel Studio produced films are leading up to. Continue with the article for the update.

You all should know that Edward Norton replaced Eric Bana as the not so jolly green Giant in The Incredible Hulk released in 2008. There’s been rumors of a crossover cameo in Iron Man 2, possible Hulk sequel, even Hulk being the main villain for the inevitable Avengers film.

While promoting the film Leaves of Grass at Toronto International Film Festival , MTV caught up with Norton and asked him few questions concerning the Marvel movies, especially the part of his character becoming a bad guy.

“In the comics, there was always a tension between the rest of the superhero community and he was always this problem… They treated him as this problem,” said Norton.

Norton also added that he thinks it would be a fun way to go with the Avengers story for the big screen.

I personally would like it very much to see Hulk vs. The Avengers. I think that should definitely be something they show since he’s a prominent figure on the team. They need to show how they convinced an angry giant to join their team. That should be handled in The Avengers or a third Iron Man film.

So how about it, would you want to see Hulk as the villain in the Avengers? Tell us your thoughts on how an Avengers movie should go in the comments.

I think it would be pretty cool to see the Hulk as a villian in The Avengers. Think about it , the most powerful being on Earth fighting against the most powerful group on Earth. It would make sense for a cameo in Iron Man 2 to maybe set up the Avengers story more, maybe something like Iron Man somehow taking down the Hulk (assistance by Hulkbusters?) and having B.B. contained in a SHIELD facility or something like that. And if they cant do it that way then it would still be awesome to see the Avengers try to contain him and get him on the team.

I think the Hulk as the villain makes for an excellent story. If they were to set things up that way, they should either have a villain come about to cause the need for bringing about the group and Hulk loses control, beats up the bad guy, and then beats up everyone else OR they should bring about the group to stop Hulk and then a greater threat should come about and require them to all work together. Personally, I like the first idea better. I think it makes more sense that Banner would want to control his powers and use them for good, but once he becomes Hulk he loses control and goes after everyone.

They should just make the first Ultimates arc this Avengers movie. Great story, everybody’s happy.

I’d love to see Hulk as the “bad guy” in Avengers. I think it makes perfect sense – Iron Man is told by the Army the Hulk is evil n whatnot so the set up is already there.. it’d be an amazing story with no actual bad guy so much as conflict of a misunderstanding gotten WAY out of control… that isn’t done so often; and done right can be amazing!

Yep, I agree Jay, and Marvel knows how to do things right. It’s a good story and it should be told on the big screen. I’d definitely want to see that that something else that The Avengers would have no problem defeating.

I agree, The Ultimates version of The Avengers is the right way to go, and they have already done The Hulk vs. The Avengers battle in the first half of the story arc. And since all the characters associated to The Avengers are being portrayed on the big screen resembling The Ultimates then you are headed that direction already.
