Clive Owen Updates ‘Sin City 2′

By Landfill | September 23, 2009

Clive OwenIt’s going to be five years soon since we’ve seen a new Sin City movie. The sequel to the first film has been talked about for quite some time ranging from creator Frank Miller to Mickey Rourke who played Marv in the 2005 film.

Every few months we get an update from Miller or director Robert Rodriguez saying something along the lines of production starting in the next few weeks. It’s been a few weeks, it’s been a few months, and now it’s been a few years and nothing new to report until today.

While at the Toronto International Film Festival MTV caught up with Clive Owen while promoting his new film The Boys are Back. They got a chance to squeeze in a few Sin City questions with the time they had with the actor. Owen said, “I’m hearing it might be next year, I heard that from a very good source… recently.”

As to who told Owen this he replied with a grin, “Maybe one of them,” referring to Miller or Rodriguez. “I had a great time on the first one. It was a stunning film,” said Owen. ” I think it was an absolutely extraordinary achievement, what [Rodriguez] did with that film. It is a genuinely original movie.”

Clive sounds very enthusiastic about a sequel but said he has not read a script for the upcoming CBM. Maybe this will be the news that leads to some actual movement in development.

I hope this actually comes out. I’ve been hoping for another Sin City movie since the first one came out. In my opinion the first Sin City move is the best/most true to form comic book movie to come out thus far even though The Dark Knight is obviously the most successful.

I agree. Sin City did everything they possibly could to stay right on target, down to the innovative cinematography. I’ve been chomping at the bits for something positive to be said about the progression of the sequel besides, “Look to the future.” I thought the story was finished. Is it just the casting holding things up? Or is there some unknown tension between those involved?

I don’t think casting is holding this up. I think Rodriguez committed himself to too many projects and this is one reason why this is taking forever. Another reason is some family problems that made him take a year off from directing.

the story is done I think but there’s still no leading lady for the sequel. Come to think of it, I think Rachel Weiz was cast instead of Angelina Jolie a few years back.
