Cage Speaks Up on Villainous ‘Green Hornet’ Role

By Landfill | September 16, 2009

Nicolas CageFor months the rumor surrounding Green Hornet was Nicolas Cage was in negotiations to play “Chudnofsky,” the villain in the film. After intense negotiations they eventually broke down and Cage declined the role (You can read about his sudden departure HERE). Columbia was in search of a new replacement for the villainous role and a few days ago we reported Christoph Waltz casting. Continue with the article to read what Nicolas Cage had to say about the role he walked away from.

The Canadian Press recently caught up with Cage at the Toronto International Film Festival and asked him a few questions concerning the Green Hornet role.

“The Green Hornet’ was something that I wanted to do, I think Michel Gondry is very talented and I had hoped it would work but I think Seth Rogen and Michel had a different take on the character.”

“I had to have some humanity and to try to give it something where you could understand why the character was the way he was but I don’t think there was enough time to develop it.”

Cage stated that he wasn’t about being a straight up bad guy killing people “Willy-nilly”.

I’m really not sure why Cage decided to drop out other than the reasons he stated because he does alot of movies so why not Green Hornet? I’m sure something else came up or he had a prior engagement but the best thing about his departure is the casting of Christoph Waltz.

I have a feeling Waltz will bring something very different to the role and should work well with Gondry and Rogen on the film. The film has a scheduled release date of December 17, 2010.

Who would you rather see as the villain in the upcoming CBM, Nicolas Cage or Christoph Waltz? Tell us in the comments below.
