Bob Iger Speaks on Disney/Marvel Deal
By Landfill | September 11, 2009
We recently reported that Disney was going after Marvel Entertainment for $4 Billion. I wrote an article with all the facts in it trying to rid the readers from the skepticism and doubt about the acquisition. If some of you are still dreading the deal continue on with the article to read what Walt Disney Company President and CEO Bob Iger has to say about it.
According to Coming Soon, Iger stressed the notion that fans can expect Marvel to operate as it has. “We’re not planning on any ‘Disneyfication’ of Marvel,” said Iger, “…Our intention is to keep Marvel as an entity.”
Iger reiterated that part of what is so intriguing about Marvel is that the deal is designed to play out in the long run, having characters that “transcend gender and age.” In the short term, Disney just has to wait until some of the Marvel deals already in place with other studios and theme parks “work their course” and, until then, “there isn’t much planning to be done.”
Iger also said that he is interested with the idea that there can be some crossovers, or as Coming Soon put it, “Cross-pollination,” but nothing is in the works as of right now.
I wouldn’t worry about anything since it’s obvious with Disney’s acquisition of Pixar a few years back that all they do is distribute and do not interfere with any part of the animatin whatsoever. I’m thinking Marvel Entertainment will run as it has and everything should stay the same. Only time will tell if this is ultimately a bad decision on either part but from today’s news, it’s definitely sounding like a good one.
