Universal Picks Up ‘Lunch Lady’; Amy Poehler to Star

According to The Hollywood Reporter Universal has acquired the screen rights to the Lunch Lady graphic novel series by Jarrett Krosoczka that will be published strarting this summer by Knopf Books for Young Readers. Amy Poehler, who is currently appearing in the NBC series Parks and Recreation, will star in and executive produce the adaptation that Sarah Haskins and Emily Halpern are writing.
The first two Lunch Lady graphic novels, Lunch Lady and the Cyborg Substitute and Lunch Lady and the League of Librarians, which are designed for readers from 9-12, will be released on July 28th. The tongue-in-cheek superheroine masquerades as a mild-mannered cafeteria worker, but in superhero mode she can wield some nasty fish-stick nun chucks and capture evildoers with a hairnet (her primary weapon), after striking fear in their hearts with her bone-chilling cry of “Cauliflower.”
